Weekly Update - November 10, 2016
In this update:

A letter from Mrs. Maxwell regarding Top 20 Training.

Important Scrip information.

Second quarter Chess Cub registration is open!

A few volunteer opportunities and upcoming dates you should be aware of.

Reminder: No school tomorrow!

In his Veterans Day program presentation, Master Sargent Matt Banyai (father of Carson and Addy) suggested that students research a way to thank a Veteran tomorrow. We'd love to know how they put that into action!

As often as possible my family spends time in Walker, Minnesota on Leech Lake.  I love visiting downtown Walker and all the shops.  This summer, while enjoying a leisurely day, I spotted a sign that said, "Please take responsibility for the energy YOU BRING into this space."  This sign is certainly Top 20! I often think about the energy I bring home to my family after a long day at school.  Sometimes I have to reach into my Top 20 toolbox to "trampoline above the line" before I settle in for the night.

We, as parents and educators, are in the business of developing the most precious gift God has given us, our children.  One way we do this at St. Michael Catholic School is through Top 20 Training. Top 20 curriculum is an integral social-emotional development component of our school family.  As we teach and then practice the program, we begin to own the "being above the line" mindset in our daily life at school.  Empowering children to be positive, curious, and confident directly correlates with their academic drive.

Have you heard your child say things like "Keep your Day", "Live above the Line" or "Confusion Rocks"?   Join us on Tuesday, November 29 to dig deeper into these Top 20 principles.  I promise you will gain tools that will guide you in all aspects of your life.

Please take a few minutes to list to Paul Bernabei's interview with John Williams on WCCO as he shares about discovering the power inside ourselves and about children being confused in school. You can listen to it here

Top 20 is not just a program for schools, it is a way for families and communities to live.  Start living the Top 20 way with us by attending this very important event.

Family Plan Status Update
Families on the $3600 plan for scrip:  Statements will be mailed the first week of December to all families that purchase Scrip and have a balance. We are at the halfway point for purchasing scrip so you should have purchased $1800 worth of scrip at this point to stay on target. If you have purchased less than $500 by the end of November, you will be switched to the $200 Payment Plan and will be billed through FACTS. If you have already purchased $3600 worth of scrip, you have fulfilled your obligation and will not receive a statement in order to save money on postage.

Scrip Special Orders
Did you know that Scrip gift cards make great Christmas gifts and also benefit the parish and school community?  In addition to the many SCRIP retailer gift cards the parish and school offices already have on hand, special order gift cards are also available for purchase.  A complete list of SCRIP retailers can be found on the school website at  http://www.saintmpl.org/scrip-gift-cards.

In order to ensure special order Scrip gift card delivery before Christmas, special order requests must be placed before 9:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 for pick up in the school office beginning on Friday, December 16, 2016.  All special orders must be picked up on or before Wednesday, December 21, 2016.
