Dear Saint Luke Parents and Guardians:

Our region will experience the celestial event of a solar eclipse tomorrow beginning at 11:54 am, with the maximum eclipse at 1:19 pm, and concluding by 2:42 pm. From an educational standpoint, we approach this amazing cosmic event from both a learning and discovery standpoint - it is a teachable moment! - but also from a precautionary and safety vantage point. In order to achieve both ends, our teachers have been encouraged to talk about and teach on the solar event during the day in some fashion.

We will keep our 2:00 pm dismissal tomorrow, but we ask that you come inside the building and pick up your children in the gym. Each student will be given a pair of protective sunglasses as they walk out of the school building, and teachers are going to be prepared to ensure students have their sunglasses on and ready. For those students who walk or bike to school, we ask all parents we ask all parents to encourage their children to exercise caution and put on their protective eyewear if they would like to observe the eclipse on their way home.

As you talk about the eclipse with your children, we encourage you to utilize the following links, among many others, to deepen your experience of tomorrow's event.

What an amazing way to start the school year for us at Saint Luke!

In Light - in Christ,
