Cohort of Champions Youth Training Initiative 
The Cohort of Champions Initiative, a unique training opportunity for 100 African-American boys and young men, ages 12 to 24. The Cohort of Champions consists of seven programs within three areas of training and enrichment: Educational Training, Entrepreneurial Training and Enrichment Initiatives/Second Chances.

WUSF: Mayor Proposes $304M Plan To Stop St. Petersburg Sewage Spills  
 
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman has rolled out a plan that he hopes will keep more sewage from flowing into Tampa Bay.

The plan has two parts with two price tags. The short-term fix will cost $45 million to increase capacity for treatment and storage at the city's Southwest and Northwest water treatment plants. Those plants caused more than 200 million gallons of sewage to spill during Hurricane Hermine.

The money, which will come from bonds, will also be used to repair aging sewage pipes and develop a master plan for future improvements.

Florida Business Daily: Frontier Communications funding ride free days on Cross-Bay Ferry  
 
Telecommunications company Frontier Communications recently entered a sponsorship deal with Cross-Bay Ferry service to provide free one-way ride tickets across Tampa Bay on select Sundays as gesture to highlight Frontier's dedication to the Tampa Bay community.

The designated dates for free service under the "Ride Free Day, Powered by Frontier" program are Nov. 20, Dec.18, Jan.15, Feb. 19, March 19 and April 16.

ABC Action News: Blue Ocean Film Festival   

The Blue Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Summit will offer over 90 films from 24 countries November 10-13, 2016 in venues throughout the City of St. Petersburg, Florida. Visitors will enjoy events and screenings from the Mahaffey Theatre to the Palladium attracting filmmakers, photographers, scientists and celebrities from around the globe. Fun for all ages, topics range from educational about the dangers of plastics to sports oriented/entertainment featuring kite boarding. The winning "BEST OF THE FESTIVAL" film will be offered for free in North Straub Park on Sunday, Nov. 13th at 7 pm.

The Weekly Challenger: CATCH graduates first class 

Back in June the Tampa Bay Black Business Investment Corporation (TBBBIC) launched its CATCH program-a 15-week business program designed to train business owners-and Nov. 3 celebrated its first graduating class at the Palladium.

"We could not do the work we are doing here in the Sunshine City, especially in south St. Petersburg, without them," said Mayor Rick Kriseman in praising the efforts of the TBBBIC and its President and CEO Albert Lee.
