Submit to be a part of The Edmonton Poetry Festival!

BYOV VENUE SUBMISSIONS - DEADLINE DECEMBER 15th!

We've said it before and remains the truth - There is never enough time, space, or money to showcase all the incredibly talented poets we have in this city. This year we invite local poets to submit events to be part of the Festival on both Sunday and Monday!

Sunday April 16th and Monday April 17th (up to 6pm) have been set aside as the Edmonton Poetry Festival's "Bring Your Own Venue" days. Yes, Sunday is Easter so we're offering Monday as an alternative to those of you who may have other commitments on the Sunday.

We are accepting inquiries of interest for local poets who want to showcase at the festival. The deadline to submit is December 15th. Please tell us the idea for your event and who you'll invite to take part.

Up to six events will be presented. We try to make sure the events don't overlap. Once a date and time has been confirmed by us it's set in stone.

You will be responsible for finding your own venue and paying your artists. You are responsible for managing your tickets and finding your own volunteers. We help market your event, you'll be on our official schedule and in the program. We will work with you to help organize the details and keep the dates on track.

*Note that this opportunity is for Edmonton Poets/Groups only.

email your proposal to [email protected] before December 15th!

Our programming committee will make a decision on the six events to be included in the program by January 15th.

Call for Student Poetry for the Poetry Route!

Open theme for students in Junior High and High School only!

The Edmonton Poetry Festival seeks your poems on what matters to you for the next flight
of The Poetry Route, a project that puts poetry onto public transit vehicles! The only catch - you must be a student in junior high or high school.

Inspire us. Educate us. Tell us what's important to you. Wax poetic about your love of winter - or not. Just write! Write us a poem and maybe it will end up on Edmonton Transit for eight weeks! We look for strong writing in all poetry styles, whether lyrical, experimental, or form poetry. Send us your best.

Four winning poems will circulate on ETS buses and LRT cars for a minimum of eight weeks, launching mid-February. We provide an honorarium of $100 to each of the four poets whose work is chosen. The submission deadline is January 1st.

Here are the rules

Entrants must be residents of the greater Edmonton area and in junior high and high school. Poets whose work has been chosen in the last year are not eligible. You may submit up to three poems.

Entries must be original work and are limited to a maximum of 10 lines including blank spaces. Space on the bus plaques is limited; keep your line length to 10 words per line. Submit poems in a word doc.

Email submissions to [email protected]. On a separate document include a one-line author statement of 20 words or less with your submission as well as your email address and telephone number.

We encourage youth of First Nations, culturally diverse and LGTBQ youth to submit!
