From Mrs. Rowley
We had a great open house last Sunday. Thank you to all who attended and those that helped set it up. A special thanks to Trish Konczal for organizing the event and Kathleen Coady for organizing refreshments. We also thank Fr. Fisher and Fr. Hayes for their continuous support of, and presence in, our school. We had many parents who gave tours and manned tables in the gym. I was especially proud of our student ambassadors who did a great job of representing our school. We are grateful to all of you for your service. We are always proud to show off our award-winning school.
Next Monday there will be a dress-down day for all of our students who completed summer reading logs and the required reading for their grade (classroom teachers have the list of students) and on Tuesday an additional dress-down day for any student who wore their uniform to Mass last Sunday. This includes members of the choir.
There will not be an edition of The Buzz next week, so I want to take this opportunity to offer you my gratitude for all that you do, and to wish you all a very peaceful and blessed Thanksgiving.
THANKSGIVING - For each new morning with its light, For rest and shelter of the night, For health and food, For love and friends, For everything Thy goodness sends.

FAMILY MEAL TIME
Eating meals together is a great way to improve the health of children and parents while spending quality time together. Eating together as a family provides an opportunity to model healthy eating habits. When families eat together they are more likely to eat healthier. There are many benefits of eating together such as: improving communication, modeling manners and offering stability, introducing new foods, preventing disruptive behavior, and improving academic performance. Eating as a family also provides parents with benefits such as: an opportunity to teach values and traditions, eating healthier, and saving money by eating out less often.

Third Annual Coat Drive is Underway!!
Thank you to those who have already donated to our winter wear collection for our less fortunate neighbors. We have 3 marked boxes located in the entryway and front hallway of the school (thank you St. Leo Club!). We are checking with one of our distant parishes in the Shenandoah area which has a high percentage of neighbors who could really use our donations. Let's make it an early Christmas for these people while fulfilling a Spiritual Work of Mercy in this Year of Divine Mercy. If you have nothing to donate from your own family this time around, we certainly welcome new bought items as well. Our drive ends November 30th

Three Kings Gift Shop Donations
Please consider
r helping us continue a great St. Ambrose School tradition-The Three Kings Gift Shop! The Three Kings Shop tradition is a Christmas shopping opportunity for our students. We stock the store with re-gifted items donated by our community that we sell for $1 or $2. All proceeds go directly to the school. The kids love it because they get to do their own shopping for their families with the help of our volunteer elves.
We are gladly accepting donations to stock our store! Please take a look through your closets, drawers, attics, and garages and see if you have items in VERY GOOD condition to donate to our shop. We could use gifts for moms, dads, children, teenagers, and grandparents. Things like jewelry, toys, games, stuffed animals, ties, gadgets, mugs, books, religious items, knick-knacks, and any item you might want to receive or give as a gift. No large gifts as the children must be able to carry the items home. We also need gift wrapping supplies, gift boxes, jewelry boxes, tape, and sturdy shopping bags. All donated items can be dropped off at the school office before December 13th. We appreciate your support! For questions please contact Maryellen DeWolfe at sdewolfe@earthlink.net.

In STEM Club last week, we introduced a new building kit called Strawbees. Strawbees are an ingenious tool which combines everyday straws with plastic connectors, allowing you to build sturdy 3D structures. The Club took to it immediately!
There are no formulas for Strawbees; everyone had an idea in their head and started building. You could really see the creativity juices flowing on this activity. I loved how with some students, they started executing immediately, while others started building without knowing where they'd end up. Strawbees are also a sneaky way to get some Math into the Club activity; the straws and Strawbee connectors are a perfect medium to create both 2D and 3D geometrical shapes.
I think the Club may have a Strawbees challenge in their future!
While having fun building, we also introduced an electrical activity for the middle school members. We took our recycled race cars and added a DC motor circuit to power our cars. The Club members were introduced to open versus closed circuits, SPST rocker switches, battery holders, propeller blades, AWG wire gauging and various tools, such as wire strippers and needle nose pliers.
