FEATURED EVENT: Dutch Bros. Rewards Liberty Health Students' Kindness
As part of their unit on mental health, Liberty High School students in Laurie Jenkins' health classes recently participated in an activity where they anonymously offered words of encouragement to classmates who may be struggling. Students in her day 1, period 4, class handled the activity with particular care and maturity, with one student voicing his support of his classmates by saying: "Come on, I'll take the entire class to Dutch!" Ms. Jenkins was so touched by this that she reached out to Dutch Bros. and immediately heard back from Jason Albert, the owner of the Hillsboro and Cornelius stores. On Thursday, Nov. 17, Mr. Albert, his wife and two of his managers surprised the students with coffee cards and lanyards, and praised them for the care they showed to one another. Superintendent Scott Commends Students for Respectful Behavior
UPCOMING
EVENTS
NOVEMBER
Last week, we heard reports of troubling incidents around the country, as well as in the Portland-metro area, in which students were targeting other students based on their race, culture, religion, or other factors. We are pleased to say that we did not see a measurable increase in that type of behavior, and would like to assure all of our families, students, staff, and community stakeholders that such actions will not be tolerated. Our schools are welcoming and inclusive spaces for all students and families, and our students' safe, respectful, and responsible behavior toward one another makes us incredibly proud to be HSD!
