Sometimes knowing where to hunt for business can be challenging.  Therefore, we thought it would be advantageous to share yet another "out of the box" Fabco-Air, Inc. success story. 

Fabco-Air products are frequently used in a multitude of real world applications. Mass motor transit vehicle builders often turn to Fabco-Air for their most challenging pneumatic applications.  Subsequently, while riding on a city bus or being transported from your hotel/condo to an amusement park, there's a great chance that you're riding in a vehicle that incorporates Fabco-Air products.

The Engineering and Technical Support Team(s) at Fabco-Air literally has multiple centuries of Fluid Power problem solving experience.  Here is just one example of how the team at Fabco-Air is able to offer a custom solution to a challenge that others might find daunting. 

The challenge was to design a pneumatic device to secure wheelchairs on mass transit motor vehicles with precise control requirements.  The Fabco-Air solution was a custom pneumatic rotary device.

Here is a brief summary of the Fabco-Air solution.  An air valve located in a control panel close to the driver sends air from the onboard compressor to force oil through fixed orifices in a double air-over-oil system.  The oil drives a helical, piston-operated rotary device to raise and lower a padded restraining arm. The piston moves outward several inches to the left simultaneously rotating the shaft counterclockwise to raise the arm.  Reversing the piston lowers the arm to secure the wheelchair.  The entire package fits neatly on the back of a steel base attached to the floor.
