Family groups prayed over the boxes after packing them.
Once packed and prayed for, the boxes were loaded into cars to be delivered. Valley Lutheran High School students spent Friday afternoon packing 246 boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Once packaged, each family group prayed over the boxes before they were loaded into vehicles to be delivered.

Operation Christmas Child generates 11 million boxes, in all, that will be delivered to more than 100 countries throughout the world.
Scripture
Thanksgiving to God
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Fall Information Night Nov. 29
Valley Lutheran's annual Fall Information night kicks off the 9th grade enrollment season at 7pm on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Current Valley students will be leading tours for prospective students and sharing with them what high school is like at Valley. Faculty will take prospective parents on a tour, answering questions. This is a great night to learn about our many programs. Please pass this information on to families who you would like to see at Valley Lutheran in the years to come.
Fruit Sale Pick-up Dec. 1-3
Students or parents may pick up fruit Thursday, Dec. 1, and Friday, Dec. 2, from 3-5pm, or Saturday, Dec. 3, from 7:30am to 2pm. Extra fruit is available. Please call the office at 989-790-1676 to place an order.
Christmas Choral Concert Dec. 11
Trinity Lutheran Church (Monitor) is hosting a Christmas Choral Concert at 3pm Dec. 11 at the church at 20 E. Salzburg Road in Bay City. Valley Lutheran will have several groups performing, including Golden  Voice, Mixed Chorus, Glorify (handbell choir) and Brass Ensemble. Additional parking is available on the northeast side of the school. Space is limited. Those attending are invited to the after party in the school gymnasium.
First Semester Final Exams Dec. 19-21
First semester final exams will be administered Dec. 19-21, even though the semester does not end until Jan.13. We have found that students are more successful on final exams if they do them before the longer Christmas break rather than after. The final exams are comprehensive - covering all material since the beginning of the year - and are counted for 20 percent of the semester grade. Teachers will provide various forms of study materials by Dec. 16

The final exam schedule is located on the website at  https://www.vlhs.com/calendar/final-exams under the calendar tab. We are on the second cycle for first semester exams. It is important to note that students may not take any final exams early. It is expected that all students take their exams when scheduled. In the case of severe illness, the student may make arrangements with Dr. Meyers to take any missed finals at a later time.
Entertainment Books Still Available
Valley still has a few Entertainment Books available for sale in the office. These make great Christmas gifts. The cost is $25.

Students Willing to Work for Help With D.C. Trip
In January, about 50 students, parents, and staff members will travel to Washington, D.C., for the March for Life. Students are willing to do yard work, babysit, and perform odd jobs in return for monetary support for the trip. If you have any work for the students, email Cris Urbytes at [email protected] or call the school office at 989-790-1676.

IS YOUR STUDENT STRESSED?
As we approach finals and the end of the semester, it is common for students to become overwhelmed with deadlines and workloads. As parents, you have an important role in helping your student learn how to manage their stress. Psychology Today offers the following advice:
1. Be aware of the sources of stress - academics, busy schedules, friendship or family concerns, etc.
2. Look out for signs of major stress: constant fatigue, nagging discomfort, burnout, and breakdown.
3. Help your student gain control of their goals, standards, and limits.

For more detailed information, see the full article here.

SPRING SEMESTER DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSES
Students planning on taking a Dual Enrollment course either online through CUAA or at Delta College should be finalizing their applications and enrollment paperwork ASAP. This paperwork needs to be into the Guidance Office by Dec. 1 to allow enough time for processing before spring semester.

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Much of the extra financial aid that our students receive outside of their future colleges comes from the various community foundations within the Great Lakes Bay Region. Applications have already opened, or will be opening soon. See the VL Scholarship page for more detailed information and links to various scholarship pages and opportunities. An hour of work could pay thousands in scholarships!

CAREER DAY SPEAKERS
Do you have an interesting job? Would you be willing to answer questions from students regarding your career and how you got there? We are looking for parents and community members who might be willing to talk with our students for a few hours on Career Day - April 7, 2017. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be willing to help, please contact Mrs. Mueller at [email protected].

STUDENT TRANSCRIPTS
VLHS uses a program called Parchment to send documents electronically and securely directly from the school. Please submit all document requests through Parchment. Transcript requests generally take two to three business days to process. If you need a document sent immediately, please contact Mrs. Mueller directly.
