The Hussman Institute for Autism is pleased to offer this six-week training course for individuals who regularly support a person with autism. In these weekly sessions, participants will develop essential skills for supporting communication, behavior, and sensory differences and learn the importance of presuming competence.
Participants may choose one of two session offerings;
Tuesdays 10am- 12.30pm or Thursdays 6pm- 8.30pm.
Please note that participants must attend one session per week for all six modules.
Modules:
Week 1: Autism, Social Interactive Engagement and Presuming Competence
Week 2: Following the Lead: Creating Naturalistic Circles of Intentional Engagement
Week 3: Supporting Communication
Week 4: Creating Adaptive Materials and Accommodating Sensory Differences
Week 5: Positive Behavior Supports, Transitions and Addressing Crises
Week 6: Building Relationships and Supporting Autonomy
Who should attend?
Individuals who are responsible at any time for supporting a person with autism.
Home-support aides and childcare providers, parents and family members, professionals, and community members.
Registration Fee:
The Institute is offering the training at no cost. There is a $40 fee to cover registration and course materials.
