Over 5000 facilities professionals from around the globe attended World Workplace 2016 in San Diego and it was a huge success. The weather was perfect, the events were well attended and the San Diego Chapter was well represented with over 120 registered members.
From the Chairman's Reception on Monday night to the Awards of Excellence Dinner on Friday night it was a jam-packed week. Representatives from our chapter, led by Lydia Reyes, were busy on Tuesday morning setting up the chapter booth while Steve Milinkevich and his team volunteered at the Foundation 5K booth in the conference registration area. Wednesday morning brought the Opening Keynote Address with 6 excellent speakers.
From the Opening Keynote, The 'March to the Expo' was led by SDSU's Color Guard. The Expo floor was lined with 300 vendors and the San Diego booth was by far the most inviting, fun, and colorful booth on the floor. Wednesday evening was the Welcome Reception held on the USS Midway. Members from our chapter lined the entrances of the ship and welcomed attendees on board. The night was full of networking, eating, flight simulators, and dancing.
Thursday was a day full of educational sessions and more time on the expo floor. Thursday evening brought the West Coast Reception at the Fox Sports Grill with almost 300 members from west coast chapters in attendance. To our knowledge, this was the highest attended West Coast Reception ever. Our wonderful Chapter Administrator Caryn Worcester and her team did a fantastic job getting attendees into the event in an organized and quick fashion. Many attendees headed to the CORT Party after the West Coast Reception.
On Friday morning our chapter co-hosted with the Silicon Valley Chapter a California Chapter Town Hall meeting to discuss Best Practices. We had 6 chapters in attendance and the collaboration and ideas that came out of that meeting were great. We look forward to working closer to other California chapters in the future.
The educational sessions continued Friday morning, followed by The Awards of Excellence Luncheon hosted by San Diego's own Ron Burgundy, and the Keynote Address was given by Steve Forbes. At the Awards of Excellence Dinner on Friday night San Diego Chapter Member and Utility Council President John Ritter accepted the award for Council of the Year on behalf of the Utilities Council.
Although World Workplace is over and we are back to our normal chapter lives, we are looking forward to the upcoming IFMA events with Facility Fusion in Las Vegas in the Spring and World Workplace in Houston in October 2017. They have big shoes to fill after such a great event here in San Diego. We want to personally thank all of the volunteers that helped make this event a success. You are all superstars!!
