Worldwide Business and General Aviation Avionics Sales Exceed $1.6 Billion in first Nine Months of 2016
The Aircraft Electronics Association released its third-quarter 2016 Avionics Market Report yesterday. In the first nine months of the year, total worldwide business and general aviation avionics sales amounted to $1,664,109,078.49, or more than $1.6 billion as reported by the participating companies.  The report indicated a 6.2 percent decrease in year-over-year sales compared to the first nine months of 2015 amount of $1,774,430,593.32.  Sales during the third-quarter months of July, August and September were $548,849,118.30, a 5.7 percent decrease compared to the 2015 third-quarter sales of $581,810,699.00.   More...  


Honeywell Forecasts 8,600 new Business Jet Deliveries in next Decade
According to the 25th annual Honeywell Global Business Aviation Outlook that was released two days prior to the beginning of this year's NBAA Convention in Orlando, the business aviation industry continues to face a slow near-term pace of orders due to a slow-growth economic environment across many global markets along with many political uncertainties. The report forecasts up to 8,600 new business jet deliveries worth $255 billion from 2016 to 2026, which represents a 6 to 7 percent reduction from the values noted in the 2015 forecast More...

Trimec Aviation Offers ADS-B Out for G100, G200
At Meacham International Airport in Fort Worth, Texas, Trimec Aviation is helping Gulfstream operators meet the upcoming ADS-B Out mandate. In early 2016, the FAA-certified repair station received supplemental type certificates on the Astra SPX/Gulfstream G100 and Galaxy/Gulfstream G200 equipped with the Rockwell Collins TDR-94/94D transponder . HONEYWELL's JetWave system received FAA  certification on the Falcon 7X, providing Global Xpress Ka-band coverage. In addition, Airbus recognized Honeywell for its Weather on Board technology at the Airbus Best in Class Partner Awards 2016 ceremony in Hamburg, Germany. Also, Honeywell said it is maximizing in-flight connectivity capabilities for business jet operators and passengers with its new CNX-900 Cabin Network Router and software upgrade for the CNX-200 Cabin Network Router. Honeywell liquid crystal displays are now certified as single display replacements for older generation cathode ray tube displays. Honeywell's Primus Epic integrated cockpit system was selected by Cessna Aircraft Company for its new Cessna Citation Hemisphere large-cabin business jet. Honeywell unveiled GoDirect Cabin Connectivity, a suite of services and mobile applications that helps business jet owners and operators manage and control their satellite communications services and usage. 

COLUMBIA AVIONICS obtained FAA STC certification of the Garmin GTN 750 and GTN 650 Series GPS/COMM/NAV and ADS-B Out systems in the Cessna 560XL aircraft. 

DUNCAN AVIATION chose Atec Inc. as its contractor for construction of an engine test cell and control room at its Lincoln, Nebraska, facility. 

ELLIOTT AVIATION announced a Garmin ADS-B solution for the Citation Excel and XLS airframes. The STC that is currently being pursued will provide ADS-B Out to meet the upcoming mandate and also provide ADS-B In through a Bluetooth compatible device through Garmin's Flight Stream wireless gateway. Elliott Aviation also completed its second retrofit of a Garmin G5000 in a Beechjet 400A. Elliott Aviation also is pursuing an ADS-B Out/In STC for legacy Hawker 800A/800XP/1000 airframes. The company also received FAA PMA authorization to manufacture aircraft parts. Elliott also completed its third retrofit of a Garmin G5000 in a Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP. 

STANDARDAERO and Cycle Aviation signed a service partnership agreement to allow operators of PT6A-powered King Air, Pilatus, Cessna Caravan, Cheyenne and TBM aircraft to take advantage of one-stop shop services for both engine and airframe maintenance. The company also signed a multiyear off-load agreement with GE Aviation to provide CFM56-7B aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul services in support of GE's Southwest Airlines program. StandardAero Business Aviation surpassed more than 19,000 Honeywell TFE731 turbofan engine Core Zone Inspections and Major Periodic Inspections since first servicing these engines nearly 40 years ago. StandardAero and General Electric Aviation signed a long-term partnership agreement to provide Bombardier Challenger 601 On-Point program operators with major CF34 hot section and overhaul MRO shop services within North America. 

ASTRONICS announced that New Zealand's Skywork Helicopters Ltd. is flying the first high-resolution Max-Viz 1400 Enhanced Vision System on a rotor-wing aircraft. Astronics also introduced its new breakthrough System-Level Test platform that is expected to revolutionize the testing of high-volume integrated semiconductor devices. 

SPIRIT AERONAUTICS announced an agreement with a confidential customer to provide advanced communication upgrades on their Gulfstream G550 along with interior modifications. The project installs the Gogo ATG-4000 Air-to-Ground communication system, the Honeywell AIS-2000 Satellite Television system and the Honeywell HD-710 Satcom system that will be married to the existing Satellite-based Broadband Multilink system interfaced to an array of network peripherals. In addition, Spirit Aeronautics is installing the Satcom Direct SDR Router, Gogo OnePhones and enhancing the interior. 

TRUENORTH AVIONICS confirmed that its Optelity Cabin Gateway has been approved by SmartSky Networks for use on the upcoming SmartSky 4G air-to-ground network. This will enable fast, unlimited streaming of content such as HD movies to multiple devices on the largest business jets, according to the company. TrueNorth Avionics CEO MARK VAN BERKEL presented BILL ARSENAULT from Mid-Canada Mod Center with a lifetime achievement award at the NBAA Convention. TrueNorth also presented its On Course Top Tier Dealer Awards to Gulfstream, West Star Aviation and GDC Technics. 

AVIATION SPECIALTIES UNLIMITED was awarded its first patent on the Ecliptus night vision camera system that allows users to capture the night in full HD video. 

UNIVERSAL AVIONICS SYSTEMS CORP.'s new Software Control Number 31.X for the UniLink UL-800/801 Communications Management Unit is in the final stages of flight testing. Following the completion of flight testing, TSO approval is imminent. In addition, Universal Avionics UniLink Desktop Training Software for FANS and CPDLC Departure Clearance Service familiarization is now available. The company also is extending three of its pricing incentive programs that were initially set to expire at the end of the year. The company's ADS-B Out Incentive Package Program, and the SBAS-FMS Upgrade Incentive Program for Learjet 40/45/40XR/45XR and Citation Excel/XLS are now available through Dec. 31, 2017. 

AVMAX purchased three Boeing 737-500 aircraft msn 24274, 24647 and 25167 from European Aviation Ltd., U.K. and the aircraft are currently on lease to AirX Charter, Malta. 

GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION announced it is expanding its in-flight entertainment service, Gogo Vision, to better serve its international customer base by offering studio-licensed movies and TV episodes in seven languages. In addition, Gogo and Rockwell Collins agreed to the availability of Rockwell Collins' Airshow Moving Map into the business aviation market segment. 

KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY's POLYTECHNIC CAMPUS purchased a quartet of Beechcraft Bonanza G36 aircraft from longtime university partner Textron Aviation as part of its plan to continuously provide professional pilot majors with the most relevant and cutting-edge flight training possible. 

LATITUDE TECHNOLOGIES named BRAD SMITH chief operating officer; CARLOS MONSALVE vice president of air transport sales; and WAYNE HUNDSDORFER director of business aviation. The company also announced the start of deliveries of the SkyNode S200 Iridium-based Satcom system to Pilatus aircraft for the new Pilatus PC-24 business jet scheduled for delivery in 2017. Latitude Technologies signed a three-year contract to provide flight data analytics services to Ornge for their fleet of Leonardo AW139 helicopters. The company was approved by Gulfstream Aerospace as a supplier of Satellite Tracking Systems and Satcom solutions. The United States Patent and Trademark Office issued a Notice of Allowance for Patent Application No. 14/762,188 for Latitude Technologies' "Wireless Software Dialer and Messaging Head" invention.

SPIRIT AERONAUTICS named JASON KANYUH project manager. 

SATCOM DIRECT obtained FAA PMA approval for its SD WiFi Hub and received EASA 145 repair station designation. The company also agreed to acquire TrueNorth Avionics, a company based in Ottawa, Canada, that offers the latest technology in cabin communications solutions. With the purchase of TrueNorth, SD expands its ability to provide advanced communications systems for business aviation aircraft. Satcom Direct also launched SD LIVE, a new platform for streaming live television in flight worldwide. Satcom Direct also now provides SiriusXM satellite weather and radio to the business aviation industry, the first time SiriusXM services have been made available through a business aviation service provider. 

FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL made several announcements at NBAA. The company announced  the addition of Master-Level Advanced Training courses for Beechcraft King Air, Cessna Citation, Dassault Falcon, Gulfstream, and Pilatus aircraft; JEFFREY LEE  joined the company as executive director, business aviation development;  FlightSafety introduced its Master Aviator program for helicopter pilots;  FlightSafety will provide training for the Embraer Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 aircraft in Dallas, Texas;  FlightSafety and Gulfstream announced enhancements to the training programs and services available to pilots and maintenance technicians of  Gulfstream aircraft;  FlightSafety's upcoming Gulfstream G500 training program will include the first business jet simulator equipped with a CrewView collimated glass mirror display;  FlightSafety now offers new composite material courses in conjunction with Abaris Training Resources;  FlightSafety is expanding its maintenance training program to include new composite materials courses. 

FLYING COLOURS CORP. extended the range of airframes on which it can now install the INAIRVATION pre-engineered retrofit solutions in North America. 

ROCKWELL COLLINS is teaming with Skyguide, the air navigation services provider for Switzerland, to integrate SmartNOTAM into the company's ARINCDirect flight planning services. Rockwell Collins also announced a new release of its ARINCDirect Flight Operations System mobile app that includes a more modern and intuitive user interface for improved workflow. The company's Pro Line Fusion avionics upgrade for Pro Line II-equipped King Air B200 series aircraft has been certified by the FAA.

CONSTANT AVIATION will offer Honeywell's Ovation Select Cabin Management System upgrade on the Gulfstream IV / V / 450 / 550 and Global 5000 /
6000 / Express aircraft. 

GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. made several announcements at NBAA. It unveiled an all-new G500 interior; the G600 is progressing toward first flight; Gulfstream large-cabin aircraft to get major cabin connectivity upgrade; Gulfstream G280 demonstrates operations at London City Airport; Gulfstream delivered its 200th Gulfstream G650; Gulfstream celebrated its 100th G280 delivery. 

LUMA TECHNOLOGIES added Cessna's 208 & 208B/Caravan to its growing list of certified installations of the 4000 Series LED Caution Warning Panels. It also added the 1900C to the list of approved models covered under the STC installing the LED Caution Advisory and Warning panels on numerous King Air platforms. 

TRUE BLUE POWER said the FAA issued STCs for the company's TB44 (46-amp hour) lithium-ion batteries on Cessna Model 208 and 208B Caravans, and Bombardier Dash-8 100/200/300 Series aircraft. This is the second FAA certification announcement for True Blue Power lithium-ion batteries issued this month, indicating growing acceptance of the technology among government regulators, aircraft manufacturers, and operators industry wide. True Blue Power also signed an agreement with Scandinavian Avionics (The SA Group), headquartered in Billund, Denmark, to provide in-country maintenance and service for True Blue Power products, including the company's TS835 lithium-ion emergency power supplies. 

HONDA AIRCRAFT COMPANY expanded sales of the HondaJet to Middle Americas with the appointment of SYI Aviation, based in Panama City, Panama, as the newest HondaJet dealer. 

GARMIN announced availability and the addition of business aircraft to a comprehensive aircraft model list, which are eligible for ADS-B solutions through select partners within the Garmin Authorized Dealer Network. 

FLIGHTSTAR CORP. announced new incentives coupled with the purchase of ADS-B OUT STCs for the Learjet 40 and Learjet 45. Flightstar is offering a pair of incentive deals to operators who purchase their ADS-B STC. Purchasing either STC entitles operators to three years of Honeywell Avionics Protection Program discounts. This discount program reduces the purchase price for new or current plans by 30 percent the first year and 20 percent the following two years. 

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA and Weather Modification International announced a collaborative partnership that will include the sale of UND's Cessna Citation II weather research aircraft to WMI and expanded joint cooperation between both organizations in developing worldwide atmospheric research programs and educational opportunities for students. 

AVIDYNE announced a strategic partnership with SmartSky Networks in which Avidyne will become a channel partner in providing and supporting SmartSky's airborne products into the U.S. general aviation industry. 

JEPPESEN introduced Jeppesen Operator, a new online business aviation platform that integrates key business aviation functionality in a 'one-stop shop' self-service environment. Jeppesen and Daher agreed to bundle Jeppesen NavData and digital charts with the delivery of new Daher general aviation aircraft. Jeppesen also announced a series of three new data bundle services that combine access across both general aviation avionics, including Garmin and Avidyne, and popular mobile apps. 

BECKER AVIONICS announced the debut of the BXT6513 remote transponder (dual antenna) with ADS-B Out. 

DUNCAN AVIATION, along with Winglet Technology LLC, announced their collaboration on FAA STC certification testing of Winglet Technology's Transitional Winglet design for the Cessna Citation Sovereign aircraft. 

COMLUX named WILLIAM KOPEREK executive vice president of business development at the group level. 

FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS announced that CMD Flight Solutions successfully obtained EASA validation of the AML STC for the integration of a FreeFlight Systems1203C SBAS/GNSS sensor paired with Rockwell Collins' TDR-94/94D transponders. In addition, Signature TECHNICAir purchased an ADS-B STC for turboprop and light jets from FreeFlight. 

JET AVIATION ST. LOUIS was honored by Rockwell Collins as an industry leader for Venue system installations. It also earned certification from the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) as an Approved Maintenance Organization for aircraft registered in Brazil. 

COBHAM AVCOMM announced its new ADS-B INTEGRITY Test Application. The new app controls Cobham's IFR6000 or IFR6015 Transponder Test Sets and GPSG-1000 Positional Simulator to support STC and post approval testing for ADS-B equipment installations per FAA AC 20-165B. 

ESTERLINE Control & Communication Systems is supplying all illuminated switch components and the overhead lighting panel for the cockpit of the new Cessna Citation Longitude super-midsize business jet, manufactured by Textron Aviation Inc. 

ALTO AVIATION was chosen by Innova Aerospace to provide cabin control switching for the Citation 560 Aircraft Modernization Program. 

AERO DYNAMIX announced its newest NVG STC for the Cessna 208 EX Grand Caravan. 

COBHAM SATCOM and Inmarsat announced that Cobham's AVIATOR 300D and Inmarsat's SwiftBroadband-Safety have enabled in-air connected EFBs for the first time. 

SAFE FLIGHT INSTRUMENT CORP. announced that AutoPower, Automatic Throttle System, will be standard on the Embraer Legacy 650E. Safe Flight also partnered with Nextant engineering to develop the modified throttle quadrant for the G90XT.
