November 10, 2016

Next week, our last full week of school before the Thanksgiving holiday, will be Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week.  We take this week each year to expand our community's awareness about hunger and homeless issues in our region, nation and world. The theme for this year's week is #BeMercyCJ based upon a homily from Fr. Bob earlier this year.

Students can participate in this week by contributing food and funds that will be distributed to St. Vincent DePaul, The Food Bank, and Catholic Relief Services - organizations that directly impact hunger and homelessness in our city and internationally. If each student brings in $3 and three items (can goods, toiletry items, small warm weather items such as hats, gloves, etc.) during the week, we all earn an extra day off school later this year. Other activities held during the week will include Marianist LIFE Community (MLC)  Monday after school with a poverty simulation and other activities and the opportunity to make bag lunches for St. Vincent's during lunch periods  on Thursday.

This week also serves as a time of reflection for all we are thankful for in our lives. Thank you for joining with us as we demonstrate mercy in our lives and educate our students for service, justice, and peace.

MINISTRY & SERVICE

From the Chaplain's Office
As I mentioned before, this year and next marks the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the Marianist Religious Orders - Marianist Sisters, Brothers and Priests - by Blessed Chaminade and Mother Adele. To celebrate, the international leadership of the Orders commissioned an Icon depicting the Wedding Feast of Cana and containing original letters from the hands of the Founders. This Bicentennial Icon is travelling around the world to each Marianist community. Last week, it arrived in North America, stopping in Mexico. From there it will go to Hawaii and then head eastward, arriving at CJ on December 8 - Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.  We are planning a festive Liturgy on that day as we celebrate the Marianist Bicentennial at CJ.  Please make plans to join us for the Eucharist on December 8 at 9:45 at Emmanuel Parish.  For more information on the Bicentennial and Icon, click here.
