In Reader's and Writer's Workshop, students engaged in mini-lessons on why and how reading is thinking, how reader's choose just right books and where writer's get their ideas. Third graders also practiced their word and grammar skills through editing practice and daily language review.
What kind of strategies did your child share with you during the Target Addition game? Perhaps it was a ten buddy, or a double strategy? Maybe they used their counting on skills to recognize how many more they needed to win. Throughout games, mini-lessons, guided practice and number talks, our third graders have been learning various strategies to help them with larger numbers and word problems. One child quoted: "Math is so much fun, but hard." It is a treat to see each child challenge themselves and learn through play, discussion, and writing numbers.
The third graders were able to maneuver a hula hoop around the whole circle of thirty children without breaking the circle. Now if this isn't teamwork and collaboration, what is? These are skills we plan on incorporating throughout the year to help build character and work together.
