A Note From Your First Grade Teachers
First Grade Connections
September 22nd, 2016

Dear First Grade Families,

It's been a busy couple of weeks since we last commuinicated on Back to School Night. It was really great to see and meet all of you. For those of you who did not make it, we hope that you have now received the information packets and have returned all the forms to your child's teacher. We appreciate the support and the work you have been doing with your children reading A Day in the Life of a First Grader each evening. It really helps show that we are a team in your child's learning here at school.

This week was Sea Crest's first ever Coastweek! The first graders celebrated the coast by investigating all the fun things there are to do at the beach. On Monday we spent time gathering ideas and creating a class book of our favorite things to do at the beach.  On Tuesday we explored sand and listened the story The Sand Castle Contest by Robert Munsch and made sand art pictures. On Wednesday we listened to surf stories, learned to pop up on our surf boards and decorated our very own surf boards that we shaped in the ilab on the foam cutter. Today we explored tide pools by reading a tide pool book and looking at a tide pool simulation in a tin pan. Tomorrow (Friday) we will get to show off all of our hard work. The other lower school classes will be coming to our classroom to see all that we have done and then we will visit them to see what they have been up to so that we can all share our knowledge. What a great week!

Please ask your student about what we have been up to the past few weeks:

  • building stamina
  • using shelf markers

  • writing about things that have happended in my life
  • writing about a sea creature
  • using my neatest handwriting

  • 10's frames
  • using whiteboards to write numbers
