Dear Fifth Grade Families,
The photo above captures the awe of the ocean as the fifth graders learned about sharks... and that was just the end of a very eventful week.
I was casually telling a friend about the children's research at Pillar Point Harbor and the resulting presentations, when she looked at me aghast and asked: "How long have you been in school?" That's when I realized that the school year was off to a fine start.
Did you know we live next to the largest marine sanctuary in the United States? The fifth graders have learned all about it through the workings of Pillar Point Harbor.
Each child generated questions, took notes, organized the notes, synthesized the information and presented their findings to rest of the class with creativity and humor. Please add the knowledge, skills, and cooperation required to complete this project to their resumes.
Ask your fifth grader:
- What's does MBNMS mean?
- What is a marine sanctuary?
- How is the habor used commercially?
- What forms of recreation are available?
- What kind of gulls of flying around?
Sincerely,
Your Fifth Grade Teacher
