On Tuesday, October 4, members and supporters of the Peekskill City School District gathered at Ossining High School to join others in the EdWalk for CFE (Campaign for Fiscal Equity). The walk, which was spearheaded by the Alliance for Quality Education of New York, marks the 10-year anniversary of the Campaign for Fiscal Equity court decision which ruled that the state is systemically
under-funding
Black, Latino, and low-income students in many districts across New York.

Uriah Hill hosted its second Parents Workshop on Tuesday, October 25. The day focused on how parents can help their Pre-K students succeed in school. Thank you to all of the parents and guardians who came out to support their children! To reward the Peekskill City School District for implementing the Breakfast After the Bell program, a strategy of the NFL and Dairy Association's Fuel Up to Play 60 program, over 100 students and school administrators recently participated in a "thank you" dinner hosted by the Cabot Farmer's Gratitude Grill, Former Giant's Wide Receiver Amani Toomer and the American Dairy Association North East.
On October 27, students and administrators had the opportunity to meet and take photos with Amani Toomer and participate in fun physical fitness activity stations in the Peekskill High School cafeteria. The day included raffles, games and a live dj.

Uriah Hill Elementary recently welcomed members of the Peekskill Volunteer Fire Department to the school. Firefighters came to teach the students about fire safety and what to do in the event of an emergency. The volunteers showed students their protective gear and gave students a tour of their fire trucks. As a special treat, Uriah Hill's head custodian, Debbie Sniffen, who is also a volunteer fire fighter, brought along the department's dog, Sky.

The Peekskill City School District wore pink on Oct. 14 to help support breast cancer awareness. Thank you to everyone who participated in the initiative and donated to the cause. Together, Peekskill City Schools raised over $1,300!

Students and faculty at Peekskill High School recently took a trip to Washington, D.C. While there, the group toured t
he Holocaust Museum, the Museum of American History, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Lincoln and Washington Memorials.

The Kraft Mobile Food Truck is coming to Hillcrest! Once a month on Thursdays from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. we will need volunteers to help set up, distribute food and clean up. Volunteers can sign up for one or two hour blocks. Please call Phyllis Elliott at 914-739-2284 ext. 243. Dates for 2016-2017 are as follow: December 22, January 19, February 16, March 9, April 13, May 18,June 15.
