Letter from the Artistic Director

Nasty election got you down?

Fuggedaboutit! Wash your brain out with comedy this month at the Toledo Rep.

Our blissfully batty mystery comedy Out of Sight...Out of Murder opens this Friday, November 11 for a two-week run. It's surefire laughs, as a hapless writer finds himself confronted by a cast of whodunit characters that he's unwittingly brought to life; one with a fatal grudge against his increasingly frazzled creator. Ferret out the would-be killer, or just enjoy the fun.

And just a hot minute after the final curtain falls on this production, we present our latest Improv Showcase. On Monday, November 21, our Adult Improv classes will take the stage to show their comic chops, and it's free to the public. (Though we wouldn't say no to donations, to help keep this program running.)

On a more classical note, we're offering "Brush Up Your Shakespeare," a special workshop for teens, running November 12 & 19. Call 419-243-9277 or visit our web site for more information, and to register.

And with the holidays marching in, don't miss out on a Toledo holiday tradition. Our rousing production of  A Christmas Carol, now in its 31st year, runs at the historic Valentine Theatre on December 2, 3, & 4. Chockablock with Yuletide music, it will delight both children and adults, and is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

Finally, we can help you get a jump on your Christmas shopping. Give the gift of live entertainment; season tickets keep on giving all through the year. Or purchase a gift certificate for one of our many classes, workshops or camps. For more details visit toledorep.org or call  419-243-9277.

See you at the Theatre,

"Brush Up Your Shakespeare"
Workshop

"Brush Up Your Shakespeare"

November 12 & 19 (2 days)
Saturdays, 9am-Noon
Ages 12-18

This two (2) day workshop will begin with an introduction to Shakespeare's works, how this one man has had such a profound influence on the English language, and why we still perform his plays and poetry today. The first day will revolve around discussion of important plot themes in Shakespeare's works and how to understand his language. From there, students will get to choose specific scenes or monologues to work on in preparation for the second day.

On day two, students will continue to work on selections with guidance from the instructor on the context of the work and communicating Shakespeare's text, taking into consideration the intentions of the original language as well as how to make it interesting to a contemporary audience. The second day will culminate with students performing their selections for one another and discussing what they've done.

Classes are held Saturday mornings at the 10th Street Theatre, starting promptly at 9:00am and finishing at noon.
Parents please drop off and pick up on time.

Tuition Cost: $60
