Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

 

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Veteran's Day Ceremony
November 11, 2016

Join us as we gather to show our appreciation
to our veterans from all wars. Ceremony will be on the County Courthouse lawn at 11:00 am
on November 11.

Alleghany Jubilee Happenings!
Join us for the  Hillbilly Hoedown  with  Rise and Shine Band  every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free.   Hours are 7-10 pm with all ages welcome, unless otherwise noted.

Mountain Soul Program at Christ Episcopal Church

Everyone is invited to attend our Mountain Soul program featuring Little Windows on Saturday, November 12, at 6:30 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 2543 Hwy 21 S, Sparta, NC. Little Windows creates a mix of Appalachian and Irish music, and traditionally-based originals, with a special focus placed on unaccompanied ballads.

 Community Celebration at the Alleghany County Library
  
On Thursday, November 17, at 6:30 pm, the Alleghany County Library will host a community celebration honoring the years of service to  Alleghany County residents at the Main Street location. The winners of the People's Choice for the Little Free Libraries and the Community Reading Challenge will be announced. The library also will "kick off" the Angel Tree program for community adults.

Refreshments will be served and everyone is invited.

Christmas Around the World
 

Homemade floats, marching band, old cars, Boy and Girl Scouts, fire trucks, horseback riders
