What's being done about safety downtown?
The progress toward a revitalized downtown over the last seven years has been extraordinary with nearly $300 million in new investment, new businesses and a new energy. However, lingering public safety challenges remain a critical challenge in maintaining the momentum downtown.

That is why Downtown Eugene, Inc., the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce and a host of aligned downtown interests and organizations have joined forces to develop and advance solutions aimed at improving the overall public safety environment in downtown. For all of the wonderful progress that has been made, persistent illegal and unpleasant behaviors occur in downtown enabled by a lack of accountability or consequences for those actions. There are physical spaces that are abused, misused or underused. Additionally, there are opportunities available to better connect those who need and want social services to resources available.

The coalition labeled the Downtown Eugene Partnership, aspires to build a new constructive strategy to address the criminal activity in our public spaces downtown while to addressing the kind of behaviors that will prevent our downtown from realizing its true potential and make downtown a place that is welcoming to all.

A Look at our Investments: Are we Doing Transit the Right Way?
Wednesday, November 30th, 4:45 - 6:45 PM, Downtown Athletic Club
Lane County boasts one of the best and most robust public transit systems in the country for communities our size. We have had success building out one of the first bus rapid transit systems with our EmX line but as our community grows and evolves it is important for our transit agency and our public transportation system to adapt to the needs of the community. Are more EmX lines the right answer? As more development occurs, do we need to develop a system wide plan for the future of transit?

On November 30th Better Eugene Springfield Transit in partnership with The American Institute of Architects Southwestern Oregon and supported by the Eugene Chamber and others, will bring expert and highly regarded transit planner Jared Walker to our community to discuss the future of transit. In this engaging presentation, Walker leads us beyond the distractions that sometimes dominate transit debates, and focuses on understanding public transit's core power: to give people freedom and opportunity as a city grows denser. He will discuss many of the recent transit network studies he's worked on around the world, including the  huge redesign of Houston's bus network implemented in 2015.

Don't miss the opportunity to explore how we could do transit differently in Lane County.
