Safety Alert -   Armed Robbery and CarJacking
Dear Neighbor,

Be advised that several armed robberies and an aggravated car jacking occurred in the neighborhood during morning hours this week.

I have spoken to both the Commander of the 18th District, Paul Bauer, and Commander of the 19th District, Marc Buslik, to discuss immediate crime prevention strategies.

The Commanders personally assured me they are increasing visible police patrols in commuting areas in our Ward during the morning hours.

The armed robberies occurred at:
  • 1900 block of North Hudson on Wednesday, August 16 at 8:00 AM.
  • 2400 block of North Stockton on Wednesday, August 16 at 5:20 AM.
  • 4300 block of North Oakley on Wednesday, August 16 at 6:15 AM.
The aggravated car jacking occurred at:
  • 1900 block of North Cleveland on Wednesday, August 16 at 8:00 AM.
The events on Hudson and Cleveland are by the same offender who has thwarted on Hudson and then stole a construction worker's car on Cleveland. The crimes on Stockton and Oakley are believed to have been committed by different offenders, fleeing in a white van with license number D832TM, D0832TM, or D083JM.

What you can do:
  • Be aware of crimes and alert your neighbors.
  • Pay special attention to any suspicious people loitering in the area.
  • Call 9-1-1 immediately and provide a detailed description of the offender(s) including the approximate clothing, weight, height, ethnicity, gender or any other unique characteristics.
  • If there is a witness, request contact information.
To increase community awareness and communication, encourage someone on your block to attend a Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) meeting and use this opportunity to share information and your safety concerns with neighbors and area patrol officers. Find your beat here.

Upcoming CAPS Meetings:
  • 18th Dist. Beats 1814 and 1824 - Tues., Sept. 5 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM., Latin Upper School, 59 W. North Ave.
  • 19th Dist. Beat 1932 - Mon. Sept. 11 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Life Community, 1110 W. Lill Ave.
Crime does not respect Ward boundaries and we will continue to work with the police and neighboring Wards to decrease the likelihood of future incidents. But nothing is as effective in fighting crime as an alert and involved community.

I will pass on any information as it becomes available.

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend,
