INSPIRE!
A culminating expo for a summer of learning at Beacon Place!

This summer at Beacon Place more than 100 students kindergarten through high school spent four hours per week growing their minds in a focused curriculum of STEAM based learning (science, technology, engineering, art and math). They explored mathematical concepts like the Fibonacci sequence, understanding how this numerical pattern can be used to model or describe an amazing variety of
phenomena in math,  science, art and nature such as the golden ratio, spirals in the galaxy and starfish, patterns on pine cones and pineapples, and self- similar  curves. They studied tessellations, 3 dimensional geometry, patterns made in sand through sound vibrations on chladni plates, the environmental impacts of sun, water, and soil on building design, and so much more!

This amazing group of learners and the dedicated team of volunteers who worked with them, learned these amazing new concepts all while they practiced core reading and math skills. But most of all, they unleashed the excitement and power of their own individual creativity.

To celebrate all that they have learned and showcase their amazing talents, Beacon Place, in conjunction with Urban Edge  null Gallery and ARTWAUK Waukegan, will be hosting a special showcase of work by the students beginning this Saturday,  August 19. The show will begin with an opening reception from 5:00 - 9:00 pm with the work remaining in the gallery for another two weeks as the show continues.

Please plan to stop by to meet the students and explore their work!

Albert Einstein once said that "creativity is intelligence having fun." At Beacon Place, we believe that everyone is intelligent and learning can be fun. Creativity is the confidence to unleash the power of possibility and the ability to turn dreams into reality.

Beacon Place.... the big blue house bringing hope to dreams.

Looking for a way to get involved this fall?

Whether we are helping kids with their homework, providing hands on learning in math, science and technology, providing nutritious snacks and lunches, making crafts, playing games or working with adults on language, parenting, or other life skills, Beacon Place volunteers are making a difference every day by offering support that allows others to make changes for themselves.

We are looking for adult and teen volunteers to support our fall programs NOW! Just fill out our general volunteer interest form and we will be happy to chat further with you about how to become involved.

Not sure what you want to do? Do you have another interest or talent to share? We also need help behind the scenes with marketing, social media, office support, and facility management, and fundraising. If you are interested in getting involved in an agency that is truly changing lives, we would love for you to be a part of our team of amazing volunteers!
