This summer at Beacon Place more than 100 students kindergarten through high school spent four hours per week growing their minds in a focused curriculum of STEAM based learning (science, technology, engineering, art and math). They explored mathematical concepts like the Fibonacci sequence, understanding how this numerical pattern can be used to model or describe an amazing variety of
phenomena in math,
science, art and nature such as the golden ratio, spirals in the galaxy and starfish, patterns on pine cones and pineapples, and self- similar
curves. They studied tessellations, 3 dimensional geometry, patterns made in sand through sound vibrations on chladni plates, the environmental impacts of sun, water, and soil on building design, and so much more!
This amazing group of learners and the dedicated team of volunteers who worked with them, learned these amazing new concepts all while they practiced core reading and math skills. But most of all, they unleashed the excitement and power of their own individual creativity.
To celebrate all that they have learned and showcase their amazing talents, Beacon Place, in conjunction with Urban Edge
Gallery and ARTWAUK Waukegan, will be hosting a special showcase of work by the students beginning this Saturday,
August 19. The show will begin with an opening reception from 5:00 - 9:00 pm with the work remaining in the gallery for another two weeks as the show continues.
Please plan to stop by to meet the students and explore their work!
