TORAH BOWL UPDATE

The middle school boys' Torah Bowl season began with an exciting start.  The boys defeated North Shore, and played very close and heart pounding games against HALB and SHAGN.  The Torah Bowl team was led by a stellar group of 8th graders, including Yoni Schneider, Gaby Lovy, Ezra Klein, and Moshe Wieder.  The boys will look to build on the momentum that they have created in the next set of matches in December.

The HANC girls Torah Bowl team strikes fear on the opposing teams after winning game after game!!!!! Enhancing a reputation not only for themselves, but for their entire school. They arrived at the meet, and after defeating 2 other teams, they took a nice break and prepared over pizza, to win the remainder of the meet. They even came close to beating the undefeated team!! They beat 4 out of the five teams in intense matches that they prepared so much for, thanks to Morah Klein!!! The Torah Bowl team knows that next time they will beat all the teams, and create a new record in HANC. We really will make Torah Bowl great again!!!!

SCRABBLE UPDATE

On November 17 eight members of HANC's MS Scrabble Club went to a tournament at Willets Road School in East Williston, playing against them, Roslyn Middle School and South Side MS (Rockville Centre). We had breakfast, lunch, and snacks in between the five rounds of scrabble. We made new friends and visited with some old friends. Several of our teams had winning records and we all had a great time. Our coach, Dave Gould, ran the tournament. Thank you to our players - Ariel Schwartzman, Moshe Wieder, Mordechai Kupferstein, Noah Wengrofsky, Shayna Greenstein, Rena Max, Avi Brandler, and Matthew Ganz.  We can't wait for the next tournament, probably in February!

GIRLS BASKETBALL
We have an exciting 10 game season ahead of us. Every player has been working hard and competing at every practice, preparing for our first game on  December 6th . With 4 returners and 11 newcomers, our discipline and drive will carry our team far.

BOYS BASKETBALL
"A person really doesn't become whole, until he becomes a part of something that's bigger than himself"
  - Jim Valvano
This past week the boys HANC middle school basketball team concluded the opening round of the pre-season Sderot Community Basketball Tournament. HANC was scheduled to  go up against two of the leagues juggernauts, HAFTR and North Shore. Despite the tough draw, the boys did not let down . They focused on the fundamentals and picked up their game. Both games were close until the end, resulting in two hard fought defeats but earning well deserved moral victories. This coming week, in the season opener against HALB, the boys are looking to turn the moral victories into real wins. Throughout the preseason the boys have worked on teamwork, leadership skills and building their game. The boys are learning that basketball is a team sport and each player needs to bring their unique quality to form the ultimate team. No matter the challenge this team is motivated and primed for victory. "There is a lot of basketball beyond our control, but a player should never let anyone try harder than he does" - Dean Smith

Looking   forward to a great season,
Coach David Tannenbaum
