Welcome to BUSINESS TALK, the City of Marion newsletter that provides a monthly snapshot of what's happening in your business community.
Business success is essential to the future of the City of Marion as a place to live, learn, work and invest.  
We are here for our business community to:
  • Be your first point of contact at Council,
  • Provide local business support services through business associations, including the Tonsley Small Business Advisory Service and the Tonsley Business Support Ecosystem,
  • Help you connect with local businesses, skilled people and training providers,
  • Offer networking, information and education,
  • Lead local initiatives such as Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board, Visitor Economy, Digital projects, Workforce Development,
  • Activate the Cove Enterprise Hub and Tonsley Business Hub; and
  • Advocate on regional issues.

Businesses are invited to find out about local business services, grants and technologies that could help grow their business.  The Grow Your Business Expo will be held on Thursday 24 November 2016 from 3pm - 7pm.  

Drop in to meet with business support exhibitors, listen to businesses that have grown their business and find out how they did it, or take a walking tour of a facility within the Tonsley precinct. Alternatively sign up for the end of year networking celebration between 5.00-7.00pm.

Nominations are open for eight board members of the Edwardstown Oval Soldiers Memorial Ground. To access the clubs constitution, position description, nomination forms or further details regarding the development please visit the City of Marion website.

Founded in 1920 the Edwardstown Oval Soldiers Memorial Ground is a unique complex currently utilised by several sporting clubs & community groups. An $8M redevelopment is planned with equal funding from the City of Marion and the Australian Federal Government. The existing committee have adopted a new constitution and are calling for nominations to the club's management board.

The facility offers an exciting opportunity to lead change and transform sporting opportunities within the wider community area. The collective approach aims to facilitate a multipurpose complex that offers a modern approach to sports management and community service delivery.  

The board will be appointed according to expertise and experience in areas of board governance at the club's AGM to be held at 7pm Monday 28th November 2016 at the Edwardstown Bowling Club. If an election is required polling will be conducted at the Edwardstown Bowling Club from 6:00 pm.

Businesses are invited to participate in a community festival
Expressions of Interest are now open to participate in Marion's biggest community event - Marion Celebrates, Saturday 25 March, 4pm to 9pm.

Are you looking for an opportunity to work closer with your community? 

The Touched by Olivia Foundation is currently developing its first inclusive playspace in South Australia in partnership with City of Marion. This playspace is designed in close consultation with the community to ensure that no children are left out.

Touched by Olivia has a dream that every community will have an inclusive playspace.  Already there are 19 Livvi's Places and many more are in development. We are now seeking donations as the only way we can make this dream a reality is with support.

The City of Marion in partnership with the Visitor Economy Working Group are launching a new website called Seven Days in Marion. We are looking for City of Marion businesses that offer accommodation, food, services or anything to visitors to be included in the online business directory.

Flinders University Open 'Flinders Innovation Centre' at Tonsley


The Flinders Innovation Centre aims to accelerate the adoption of key innovative technologies that are critical to South Australia's future industries.  The centre offers: 3D printing (a priority 3D printing service is available for urgent jobs), 3D scanning and other rapid prototyping services.  These services are offered to: industry, start-ups, individuals, universities and schools.

The 3D printer is a   Stratasys Connex 260 3D printer  which utilises polyjet technology to create prototypes, parts, and injection moulding tools with precision.  This is a high quality, multi-material 3D printer offering 14 customisable material selections including rigid and rubberised/flexible finishes that can be produced as an assembly, with up to 16 micron layer resolution. This 3D printer was used extensively for rapid prototyping and validation of the recently commercialised Hills Innovation Centre Arthritis Pendant. This has also been utilised by many local designers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to produce cost-effective high quality prototypes with a fast turnaround time. The Flinders Innovation Centre is a node of the South Australian Government's Manufacturing Technology Centre.

Tender Ready Workshops - Adelaide

The increasing number of major projects, especially in defence, mining and energy and civil construction will provide unprecedented opportunities for South Australian businesses. These workshops will help small and medium sized businesses to successfully quote and/or tender for major projects and contracts. Workshops are delivered by a qualified TAFE trainer with extensive industry experience.  B usinesses can attend the Introductory and/or the Advanced Tender Ready workshop.

Cost:           $90 (ex GST) each workshop (includes lunch)
 
Tender Ready (Introduction): This 1 day workshop focuses on the fundamentals of tendering and ensuring participants have a good understanding of the quoting and tendering process.  The session will review your own business needs and capabilities, your approach to quoting and/or tendering and the tools to develop clear and compliant quote and tender applications.  Date: Friday 11 November 2016.  9:00am to 4:30pm.
 
Tender Ready (Advanced): This 1 day workshop is aimed at businesses that would like to increase their capabilities for successfully obtaining a major contract or tender. The focus will be on improving your own Capability Statement and quoting and tender response practices. Date: Friday 25 November 2016. 9:00am to 4:30pm
