Senior Earns Perfect Score on AP Test
Milford High School senior Chloe Elleman received a perfect score on the Advanced Placement United States Government exam.

"Chloe was one of only 25 students in the entire world to do this! We believe she is the first Milford student ever to receive a perfect score on an AP test," said Mrs. Anna O'Neill, Milford High School social studies teacher. Mrs. O'Neill was Chloe's AP Government teacher.

AP exams are college-level tests administered by The Colle ge Board and test what you have learned in an AP class. Students can earn college credit if they pass the AP exam.
Milford Teacher Named Teacher of the Year by Local Company
Lisa Holt-Taylor, a third grade Science and Social Studies teacher at Boyd E. Smith Elementary School, has been named as the Hixson Architecture, Engineering, Interiors "Teacher of the Year" for the 2015-2016 school year. The award was presented in October at a ceremony honoring her and four other finalists at Hixson's offices in Mt. Adams.

Through this program, Hixson associates are encouraged to nominate a teacher of one of their children or grandchildren. Holt-Taylor was nom inated by Greg Hammond, whose daughter was in Holt-Taylor's classroom last school year.

A teacher for the past 14 years, Mrs. Holt-Taylor began her professional life as a nurse, focusing on cardiac rehabilitation as well as pediatrics. This career path helped open her eyes to the need for education which takes into account each student's diverse experiences and backgrounds.

"Knowing where the student is at emotionally, socially, and academically is the most important step in delivering an effective education experience," said Mrs. Holt-Taylor. "As education changes, educators must adapt to being flexible in the delivery of instruction and provide differentiated education drawing on our student strengths."

In addition to the $5,000 prize given to Mrs. Holt-Taylor, she received a plaque recognizing her professional excellence.

Veterans who will be attending for the recognition should also call the Board Office or RSVP to Terry Kruszynski at kruszynski_t@milfordschools.org.

In addition to presenting diplomas, all area veterans are invited to come to the November Board meeting in uniform and the Board will recognize them for their service at the beginning of the meeting. There will be a short program with patriotic music and a presentation of certificates.
District Gathering Input on Master Facilities Plan
Through an online survey, community advisory committee and public meeting, Milford administrators and Board members have been gathering community input on the district's Master Facilities Plan.

The current facilities plan includes replacing the Milford Junior High School building; renovating parts of Milford High School that have not been updated; replacing the current auditorium with one that meets the needs of the current student population; renovating athletic facilities; and replacing the Milford Preschool.

A total of 761 individuals responded to the Milford Exempted Village School District online survey about its Master Facilities Plan. The online survey, which was posted for three weeks, ended on October 14.

In addition to a community meeting held on October 25, the district has formed a 60-person Community Advisory (CAC) Committee that has been studying the facilities plan. The committee has participated in a visioning process to learn about and discuss the educational facilities that will be necessary to support teaching/learning in the 21st century. The committee will be making its recommendations to the Board of Education this fall.
