Louie's Long Road to Recovery
Dog Recovers from Rare Disease After Months of Treatment
When Louie, a 5-year-old Australian Cattledog mix, was first brought to Foothills Animal Shelter, he was almost hard to look at. He was severely underweight, his eyes and the top of his head were sunken in due to atrophy and there was a foul smell emanating from his mouth. Jefferson County Animal Control Officers brought Louie to the Shelter after receiving phone calls about the dog's horrible condition. Luckily, Louie's owner agreed to give him over to the Shelter so he could begin to get the care he needed.

For the first several days, Louie refused to eat or even open his mouth. The Shelter's Chief Veterinarian, Dr. Emily Hays, decided to sedate him and see if she could figure out why this might be. Dr. Hays examined his mouth and was shocked at what she saw: some teeth were missing, others were eroded down to the bone and there were severe ulcers covering his entire mouth and lips. No wonder he had no interest in eating; it was far too painful.

Bring Home a Senior Sweetheart
It's Adopt a Senior Pet Month
November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month and we are celebrating our special senior sweethearts! To help our older animals find their forever homes, we are having adoption specials for cats and dogs 7 years and older all month long!

Adoption fees for all dogs 7 years and older are $25. Adoptions for all cats 7 years and older are just $5, plus come with a free collar! The regular adoption process still applies and the spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip and health check are included.

Help Find Homes for Orphaned Pets
Colorado Gives Day is Tuesday, December 6
"Home" is the nicest word there is. Each year, Foothills Animal Shelter helps more than 9,500 dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and critters find the forever homes they deserve. Because, ultimately, home is where we all need to be.

Help find homes for orphaned pets by donating to Friends of Foothills Animal Shelter on Colorado Gives Day, Tuesday, December 6, when the value of your donation will be increased by the First Bank Incentive Fund.
