Give your abandoned LEGOs a good home
The Kansas State Polytechnic library is looking for LEGOs and would like to take your unwanted and unused ones off your hands!

The library needs any and all pieces: plain standard blocks, bits and bobs from novelty sets, random LEGO people - whatever you've got!

After collecting, sanitizing and sorting, the library will include the LEGOs in a Creative Station in their space. Students, staff and faculty can de-stress and create amazing things. This collection of LEGO blocks will also allow the library to host a variety of contests and displays in the future.

Please contact Katherine Jones at [email protected] if you would like to donate. Donations will always be open, but Jones is hoping to collect LEGO pieces before Winter Break.
Tips on how to skip the printer and go paperless
Have you ever needed to capture a web page, but didn't have easy or free access to a printer? Would you like to reduce your printing costs at home or do more to minimize your impact on the environment?

Why not go paperless? All K-State Polytechnic classroom, lab, library and office computers have software installed to allow you to "print" and save a PDF file. You can easily do this at home as well - an increasing number of operating systems (Mac OS X for example) and even some applications now come with this option. There are installable applications for those that don't.

How do I "print to PDF?"
If you are using the standard Windows printing dialog on a Polytechnic lab computer, select "Cute PDF Writer" when choosing what printer to use. In most other cases (e.g. when printing from Chrome or other PDF-enabled applications), it's usually as simple as selecting the "Print to PDF" option in your printing dialog. Storing your PDF on OneDrive http://blogs.k-state.edu/it-news/tag/one-drive/ or another cloud-based storage provider can make it accessible from just about anywhere; however, keep in mind that documents containing confidential information should not be stored in the cloud.

How do I access my document later?
Free PDF-reader software is available for Windows, Mac OS and Linux. Most K-State Polytechnic computers have some version of Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. If you're looking for an alternative to Adobe, PDF-XChange http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer offers a free viewer with helpful markup capabilities. There are also a growing number of smartphone and tablet apps that support PDF reading (including the app for Microsoft One Drive).

Happy PDF-printing!
Dr. Kurt Barnhart receives 2016 McCune Middlekauff Faculty Fellowship Award
Congratulations to Dr. Kurt Barnhart who was named the 2016 McCune Middlekauff Faculty Fellowship recipient.

Dr. Barnhart has been a leader on this campus through the transition of it being a strictly teaching campus to a campus that contributes successfully in research, without sacrificing our excellence in teaching.

He has led the development of a nationally ranked undergraduate option in UAS and as a result of his own reputation, has been able to attract and retain highly qualified faculty and staff. Dr. Barnhart is also responsible for the growth and nationally recognized development of our UAS research under the campus's Applied Aviation Research Center.

Dr. Barnhart is sought after by many other institutions as his reputation in general aviation and more recently, in the unmanned aircraft systems arena, has continued to increase.  He serves on aviation boards and task forces. He is called by state and national legislatures to provide guidance relating to aviation and has chosen to continue his career on the K-State Polytechnic campus. It is an honor to have a well respected and dedicated professional like Dr. Barnhart as a member of the Polytechnic Campus.

A high-five is one of the most recognizable ways two people can share excitement or celebrate a job well done. Kansas State Polytechnic's CEO and Dean Verna Fitzsimmons awards her high-five each week to honor faculty, staff and students for their dedication to the university.

Thank you to those involved with our first Worldview Week!
High-fives to everyone that has been involved in the planning and implementation of the campus's first Worldview Week. I believe it is important to provide activities like the ones offered during Worldview Week so that we can gain a better understanding of something new as well as get to know each other better and draw closer as a campus community.

Thank you for the hard work that went in to putting these fun events together, and I hope everyone will continue to participate.
