Monique, the moment after she was told she was selected to be a Habitat homeowner!

Mission Moment

After Monique and her two daughters were selected as one of our newest Habitat families, we asked her to share her thoughts on being selected. "First and foremost I want to thank God.  I'm just so thankful for everyone that worked with me, encouraged me, and believed in me, even when I didn't believe in myself. I appreciate all the help I am going to receive in the building of my new home. I also want to give a special thanks to Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity for choosing my family."

Service Spotlight

Every Wednesday, a crew of people comes together to volunteer for the day on one of our Habitat homes. They may be building a new home, renovating a property that's been donated to us, or working on A Brush With Kindness project which includes critical and minor exterior home repairs, yard clean-up, and weatherization.

"I started volunteering on the construction committee probably at least 10 years ago," explains Robert Dimmitt. "I started working on the Wednesday crew when I retired in 2008, but I returned to work after a few months.  I retired for good in 2012 and try to volunteer most Wednesdays.  The staff and the volunteers are great to work with, and although at the end of the day I am usually pretty tired, it is a worthwhile thing to do."

Volunteers from Summit Park Church

Faith Relations

Our construction projects would not get done without the help of volunteer groups coming out every weekend. Many of these groups come from area churches that want to give back through volunteering their service work. We do everything from complete new builds, exterior home repairs (both minor & critical), landscaping and weatherization; and we need groups of around 10 people at a time. There is no experience or tools necessary, we teach and supply!

The work of Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity is driven by the desire to give tangible expression to God's love through the work of eliminating poverty housing. Habitat for Humanity partners with individuals of all faiths, or no faith. Our ministry provides an opportunity for people to put their faith and love into action and to bring diverse groups of people together to build homes and community.

Hebrews 6:10
"God is not unjust, He will not forget your work and the love you have shown HIM as you have helped HIS people and continued to help them"

ReSt ore Update

We received a huge donation of stained glass from Mike Peck that we wanted to accept, but due to safety concerns were unable to sell inside our ReStores. After making some phone calls, we received another offer to have it sold for us out of Rebecca & Curtis Hite's store called A Stained Glass Station. Duane Graham, Richard Wisely and John Davis from the ReStore helped to make the sale a huge hit. The total sales brought in was over $5,000. What a great deal!! $5,000 will go a long way towards the Habitat Mission of building homes, communities, and hope right here in Eastern Jackson County.

If you want to help, we are always in need of volunteers to work in the stores as well as donations of items we can sell in our stores such as building materials, lumber, fixtures and furniture, and appliances.
