Meet some of our Guatemalan staff
members:  Gladys, Nidia and Jhayr.
Meet Our Staff

For the month of August, I want to introduce to you three special Guatemalans who work with us day in and day out. They are committed to seeing children in crisis become children in Christ, and for that we are eternally grateful! One of these special staff members literally came to us as a child in crisis, and we are thankful that she has chosen now to work and live at NLCH. So, take a moment and meet Gladys, Nidia and Jhayr.

Sincerely,

Wendy Wheeler
NLCH Director
Gladys García Villeda: Home Parent (Older Girls)

Gladys grew up in the care of New Life Children's Home and has served with us since 2007 as a teacher at New Life Christian School and now as a home parent. She brings a unique perspective to our staff and we value her wisdom and insight. Read below for a short Q&A with Gladys.

Q: How have you seen the Lord work at NLCH over the years you have lived and worked there?
A: I am confident that  God's plans were to bring me to NLCH when I was very young. I see Kendon and Wendy Wheeler as my parents, and I am grateful for all they have done to make the Lord known to me. I was blessed to graduate from high school as a teacher and then go on to study psychology. The Lord brought my husband, Milton, into my life, and we were married at NLCH in September 2015. He has provided for us through the opportunity of working in the Home where I grew up and allowed us to help those that live here and be an example to them.

Q: Tell us about your family.
A:  From what I remember, I didn't live very long with my biological family. My three siblings and I came to live at NLCH when I was very young, where we were provided for, loved and pointed to Jesus. For me, my parents are Kendon and Wendy. I have the blessing of seeing them every day, and talking to them as I work alongside them to care for the special kids at NLCH.

Q: How can be pray with you for the young women in your care?
A: There is so much that I ask the Lord for in their lives:
-That they would know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
-That they would break the chains of their past and the curses.
-That they would forgive those that have hurt them.
-That they would be able to trust again to let others help them.
-That they would be professionals so that when they leave NLCH they can be someone in life and carry Jesus with them in their hearts.
Nidia Solis Soto
: Psychologist

Nidia is one of our newest staff members at NLCH. She serves as our psychologist, assisting our children as they work through their past trauma and look toward the One who brings healing. Read below for more from Nidia.

Q: What brought you to NLCH?
A: It was definitely God! I was without a job and had sent my résumé out to quite a few places, but hadn't heard back from any. One night, I told God that I didn't want to be without a job anymore, and that He was the one to put me where He decided. The next morning, NLCH called me for an interview. I hadn't sent them my resume nor did I even know that they had an opening.

Q: Share a special memory from working with our NLCH kids.
A: One of our little ones  couldn't say my name correctly. For many days, she had to repeat my name to try to say it and she would always forget or keep pronouncing it wrong. One day from the playground in front of my office, someone started yelling my name, "Miss Nidia! Miss Nidia!" I went to see who it was, and it was her. "I know how to say your name! I love you! Bye!" she said. It was a good feeling.

Q: What is your prayer for the children you work with?
A: I pray daily that  they would heal from their wounds and be able to remember what they have lived through without feeling the pain. I want them to know that a life that is rocky can transform into one that is calm. I hope that as they get help from the Lord, that they would reach their goals and go beyond them.
Jhayr Marin: Cashier

Jhayr has served in our NLCH office staff NLCH for nearly two years. Read below for more from Jahyr.

Q: What do you like most about working at NLCH?
A: I work alongside some really talented, caring and wise people. I am thankful for this opportunity.

Q: Tell us about your Christian testimony.
A: When I cam to work at NLCH,  I surrounded myself with people that believed, and who were firm in their beliefs, and it motivated me to be part of a family. I saw miraculous things happening around me, I started wanting to know more about the Lord and wanting to serve Him. I also started reading books that people had given me that answered many doubts and holes that I had in my life. I accepted Christ here in the office at NLCH surrounded by coworkers praying for me. I am in the process of growing in my faith and wanting to become a spiritual leader. I want to be better every day, and of course with the help of God, everything is possible. Rejoice with us for Jhayr's profession of faith!

Q: How can we pray for you?
A:  I am currently studying accounting at the University of San Carlos. Please pray for strength and endurance in my class, and also I ask for safety and grace for my family.
