Dear Lycée Parent / Guardian,

    Lycée's seventh year has begun! I hope that you agree that the first day went well in spite of traffic issues at our campuses. I've heard many wonderful things about the day from students and parents. It seems that teachers were a hit yesterday as was lunch by Pigeon Catering. We have a remarkable team of professionals working with our children and I know this will be our best year yet.

Because of traffic issues, the Johnson campus is getting a traffic routing make over today. Please become familiar with the revised traffic protocol that is included in this edition of the newsletter, and follow the guidance of our traffic / security officers. When everyone cooperates, we'll get greater efficiency, making life easier for all of us.

At both campuses, please notice and follow all traffic and parking ordinances, and above all, be courteous to neighbors by allowing them to easy access to and from their homes and avoid blocking drive ways even for a few minutes. The explanation, "I was just parking here for a few moments to run in to get my child," is never an acceptable response.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the area, and everyone is advised to drink lots of water. We take those advisories seriously, and always allow students access to water whenever they ask. At recess, we allow students who wish shade to have a shaded area in which to play. We also encourage students to fill water bottles (labeled with name and room number). Students may wear hats while at recess, but they may not wear them in classrooms. Please remind your children to never wear someone else's hat because of lice. Lice is an issue and we all have to do our part in preventing the spread of these nuisance bugs. A group of parents has formed a new service, Les Poux Patrol, to assist other parents in dealing with the pest. They've prepared a very practical guide for parents and they offer support to families dealing with repeated lice issues. Be sure to check it out in the next issue of Être à la Page.

Thanks for choosing Lycée as your partner in the education of your children.

In this newsletter...
Dear Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for your patience during a first day dismissal at the Johnson Campus. Yesterday we teamed up and brainstormed ways to improve the dismissal procedure, and the new plan is detailed below. We ask that you strictly follow this plan so that we can dismiss quickly and safely. Please note that it always takes a few days for dismissal procedures to normalize. We expect smooth operations as early as the beginning of next week.

Carpool:

The carpool driving route has changed - cars should drive down Hickory Street from Carrollton, past Monroe, make a right on Eagle, make a right on Cohn and one last right on Monroe and stop for pick up. Basically, circle the school property. Captain Jackson and officer Derek will assist with directing traffic.

Walk-in Pick-up:

If you pick up your child on foot, please enter (and exit) the building through the door closest to Cohn Street. Students will be lined up in this order:

Grade 3 and 4: in the large assembly room which you may enter in the middle of the first floor hallway;
Grade 5: in the first floor hallway;
Grade 6: in the music room;
Grade 7:  in the hallway next to the music room;

Bus Riders:

Students leaving school with the bus (WestBank and City Park bus) will line up in the hallway in front of the main office and safely escorted to the bus by a staff member.   Parents of WestBank  bus riders should inform the transportation team
[email protected] before noon if students should not take the bus on a particular day. Parents of City Park bus, please inform your parent liaison.

Unaccompanied students:

Students will be permitted to leave campus unaccompanied ONLY if the Unaccompanied Student Dismissal Request has been signed and returned to the office manager. This form can be found on the Parent Resources portal of our website www.lfno.org/handbook-forms.

Thank you for your cooperation and support and we strive to provide safe and efficient dismissal procedure.

La Liaison would like to start the year strong with lost and found and avoid those mysterious disappearances ...do jackets, waterbottles and lunch bags seem to vanish before your very eyes???

Please remember to label: clothes, waterbottles and lunch boxes with:
  • Your child's name
  • Child's grade
  • Teacher Room Number, when you have it after August 14th (at the Meet & Greet from 3pm-7pm)
  • Please don't forget every child should have a change of clothes in their backpack, also labeled.
We want to help you to not lose the things you have purchased for your child. The more info you have, the quicker we will be able to get it out of the lost and found pile this school year. Please check or have your child check the lost and found every Thursday and before any school breaks. We really want the lost and found to become more manageable.

Did you know?

Did you know that potato in French is "pomme de terre", it literally translates to "apple of the earth."

By using refillable water bottles, our staff and students have saved a total of 71,053 from the landfill.
