We must remember Charlottesville and say "Never again!!"
NASW-NJ, led by its Board and Staff, denounce the racist, bigoted, hate-filled messages and actions that were brought to Charlottesville last weekend by white supremacists.
The violence that ensued, the death of Heather Heyer and injury to many others, the destruction of property and the terror that was generated are familiar to those of us who have lived through other times of hate and fear in this country and around the world. This activity must not be allowed to continue.
In addition, we expect President Trump to condemn white supremacy and those who follow this path of hate and violence. NASW posted a statement calling on the President to show leadership by explicitly denouncing white nationalism and neo-Nazism. Please click

The NASW
Code of Ethics includes among the values of our profession Dignity and Worth of the Person and Social Justice. NASW and NASW-NJ call upon all social workers to work actively against any group focused on the destruction, degradation or demonization of others. Our Code of Ethics demands no less.

Senate to Vote on DMHAS Shift
The Senate has officially scheduled to convene on August 25th to vote on blocking Gov. Christie's DMHAS transfer from the Department of Human
Services to the Department of Health. This is an ill-timed move and
could significantly disrupt the provision of services by increasing market uncertainties, causing funding complications, changing the agency culture, and more. Since the Democratic Senators are likely to unanimously oppose this shift, Gov. Christie scheduled the period in which we can stop the shift to expire during the summer recess while legislators are on vacation. We need them to show up and vote or this shift will go through as Gov. Christie planned.
Every call, email, and letter counts. You can find their contact info by clicking here.
