August Giving Items
Giving items for the month of August are peanut butter or jelly for the J Street Apartment Food Pantry. Your donation may be left at the back entrance near the Welcome Center. Thank you for your generosity.

Lord's Acre Sale
For those friends who are planning on donating items to the Lord's Acre Sale indoor market, there will be plenty of tables set up to display all of  your great donations. Please price your items before bringing them to the church. This saves on time and lets our volunteers focus their efforts on other areas. Remember this is a market, not a silent auction, so please price your items  accordingly. We want our customers to feel that the items are affordable, while keeping in mind, this is our fall fundraiser.

Donated items may be brought to the church beginning Sunday, September 9th. There will be space clearly marked in the choir room for your donations. The choir room is located directly behind the kitchen. If you choose to bring your items later in the week, volunteers will be setting up on Thursday and Friday evenings after 5:00 and will be able to accept your items at that time. Again, please remember to price your items. If you have any questions about pricing, contact Brenda Swanson.

Donations of fresh, whole chickens are needed for our Chicken Noodle Soup lunch. Please bring your chickens to the church by Sunday, August 27th, mark it LAS and put it in the silver refrigerator in the kitchen. If you would prefer, in lieu of a chicken, you may make a monetary donation. Please make your check payable to SUMC and write LAS in the memo part of your check.

Sign-up sheets for volunteers and donations will be available in the church lobby this Sunday, August 20th.

If you have any questions, contact Brenda Swanson at 319-213-5804 or by email at [email protected].

Thanks to all who have continued to support
our 70th Lord's Acre Sale.
Blessings to all!

Grape Picking Fundraiser Date
Our grape picking fundraiser will be
Saturday, August 26th. It will be at the Ternes Vineyard located at 1855 L Rd NW, Swisher. (About 3 miles west on 120th Street, out of Swisher. South/left on Falcon Avenue and watch for signs.)
Start time is 7:00 a.m. and lunch will be provided. There is still time to volunteer. Sign-up sheets are in the church lobby. If you have any questions, contact Mike Jones at 319-848-7213 or email him at [email protected].
Sunday School and 380 Kids
There will not be Sunday School on
August 27th or on September 3rd.
School year Sunday School and 380
kids begins the week of September 10th. Please register your children in advance. If you have any questions or would be willing to help, please contact Heather Nekola at 319-848-7213 or by email at
[email protected].
Fall Grounds Clean Up
Mark your calendars for Sunday,
August 27th, 4:30 p.m.! We need help with trimming and cleaning up the landscaping of the church and the parsonage. Last year we had a great group of volunteers and we were done in less than two hours. Please bring any tools you have for trimming and raking and join in on the "many hands make less work" theory! A sandwich meal will follow as a thank you from the trustees.
UM Women Potluck and Guest Speaker
Monday, September 11th, Linda Hartley Hey will share the history and knowledge of the Shueyville community. Please plan on attending this event. At 6:00 p.m. there will be a salad supper potluck followed by Linda's enlightening and enjoyable presentation. All are welcome!
Wednesday Night Team Meals
Help make disciples of Jesus, lead by example and show hospitality to all with a welcoming meal on a weekly basis. Wednesday night meals are prepared by teams of volunteers who will prepare a meal approximately once a month. The meal can be very simple. We need team leaders willing to organize a simple meal just once a month and workers willing to prepare, serve and clean up. Wednesday night meals start September 13th and end in May. If you would like more information or to volunteer, please contact Jolene Bowman or Carol Crisman.
Finance Information
This is a reminder that the church's finance position is a part-time position and is being filled by two co-directors. Their work is being done primarily during non-office hours, so if you have any finance questions please send an email to [email protected].  You will receive a response back within 24 hours.

Coordinating Our Building Use
Are you needing a place at the church for a committee meeting or event? Please note that ALL scheduling of the building's use must be cleared and scheduled through Julie in the church office. This is not a "permission" issue, but we do need this central location for keeping track of the building's activities (we are thankful to be able to host a growing number of Boy and Girl Scouts this year!). Just drop an email or phone the office (848-7213), so there are no surprises. Thank you!
