CITY DECIDES FATE OF WESTSIDE TREES
August 11, 2017, The New Haven Independent, by Markeshia Ricks- "The city will remove 20 ash trees and put 13 trees on monitor status for the ravages of the emerald ash borer.  That is the decision of the city's Tree Warden Rebecca Bombero, who also is the director of Parks, Recreation & Trees.  Bombero came to that decision a few days after meeting with neighbors about the fate of ash trees infested with the destructive beetle. Central Avenue has nine trees slated for removal, but also nine trees on monitoring status that neighbors can adopt and pay to have treated to try to stave off the death of the tree. West Prospect Street will have seven of its ash trees removed while just one is slated to be removed.  "The Department shares the opinions of the benefit of trees and strives to protect healthy trees," Bombero said in a letter dated August 13."Unfortunately, planting patterns from decades ago lead to large clusters of Ash Trees ..." HNRY FLWR + ZIEMBA @LYRIC HALL

HNRY FLWR is the creator of The Message. In 2014 HNRY FLWR began mixing different length sound waves using ancient synthesizers and a team of musical experts to create a type of music that is 100% earnest. Before this Method of sound control, music was an insincere endeavor solely energized by a pure form of propulsion known as Narcissism.
The HNRY FLWR B(r)and was discovered and founded by Blaze Boylan of Blaze B. Mgmt in Brooklyn, NY.

ZIEMBA's multisensory performances offer an alchemy that is both alien and familiar. The Brooklyn-based composer, perfumier, geographer, and vocalist builds oozy architectures for her songs using fragrance, costume, and only the most sincere theatrics. She recently founded Ardis Multiverse, a sonic fragrance imprint and artists alliance, and has spent the past year touring nationally and internationally in support of her debut album, "Hope is Never." She is currently a fire organ artist-in-residence with Guerilla Science, and is hard at work on her forthcoming fragrance/mapping project/album/parallel universe.

AFTERSCHOOL ART WITH MUFFY!

Register your child today for the after school or late afternoon ART class that the neighborhood kids LOVE. Muffy's ART classes are full of variety, listening to music albums or books, dancing around, always share ideas and strengthen friendships.

For the classes that occur after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Muffy will pick up your child at Edgewood School, walk them home (in EVERY kind of weather), share a snack and then create until they are picked up! For Late Weds class, transportation both ways is up to the family. Non-Edgewood school kids can meet the class at my house at approx 3:20.

For details, such as address and payment options, email Muffy at

WESTVILLE NEIGHBORS NEED YOU HELP!

On July 5th there was a house fire in a rental property at 308 Alden Ave. (on the corner of Alden Ave. and Willard St.).

Fortunately, no one was hurt. Unfortunately, there was significant smoke and water damage and all four apartments are uninhabitable for at least a year. The six people who lived in the property have all experienced loss - loss of possessions, income and of home. Only one rental property had renters insurance so the tenants are working to replace their belongings.

We're looking to the generous community-centered people of Westville (and beyond) to pitch in to help our neighbors.

CLICK HERE to donate and learn more about the tenants.
