Annual Turkey Trot
The annual Turkey Trot is coming up on Friday, November 18, where our 7th and 8th grade PE students will have the opportunity to run the off-campus mile! We partner with the Menlo Park Police to ensure our students' safety as they run on our neighborhood streets. We are looking for volunteers to help with the event and donate snacks. Cleaning Out the Closet Sale
Looking for an old style Hillview sweatshirt? We have have some and they are on sale for only $10. We have sizes from youth large up to XXL. They come in white or blue and the numbers are limited to what we have on hand. They make a great holiday gift!
Crossing Guard
Last Monday, November 7, our crossing guard at Valparaiso Avenue and Elder Avenue was moved to the front of school driveway on Elder Avenue. The city has committed to installing a lighted crosswalk at Valaparaiso and Elder, though it is not yet complete. In the interim, please discuss safe crossing at the intersection of Valparaiso and Elder with your children.
Lost and Found
We are coming up on the Thanksgiving break soon and just a reminder, ALL of the lost and found will be donated November 17. If you or your child is missing anything, please come by and take a look. Currently the lost and found in inside the Student Center due to the weather and the large amount of stuff we have.

Community Survey
Hundreds of MPCSD parents still have yet to complete their community survey. Are you one of them?
We have extended the deadline to respond to December 9. Panorama will be sending a second mailing to all registered voters and emails to parents reminding them to complete the survey.
As a reminder, in partnership with Panorama Education, the leading K-12 survey and data analytics company, all 16,000+ registered voters within the Menlo Park City School District boundaries and all parents received an invitation to participate in our first-ever community-wide online survey. Aligned to our Strategic Directions, we prioritize community input and engagement, as well as building a feedback-rich culture. The Community Survey will become an annual event as MPCSD pursues goals designed around the needs and desires of our students, staff, parents, and community. Help us get the word out. Reductions and Parcel Tax Update

- 469 online input forms submitted and read.
- 60+ speakers during public comment.
- 18,000 MPCSD residents invited to complete community survey.
- 1000's of hours of staff and volunteer time.
On November 9, the MPCSD Board took into consideration all the input they have sought and received and thoughtfully debated the direction the district will take regarding how to address the district's structural deficit. The Board directed the staff to work with our strategy consultants to draft a parcel tax measure to be presented to the public in March 2017. While not a final decision, the parcel tax draft will be designed to offset the reductions closest to the student experience and maintain financial solvency in the midterm.
The following meetings have been scheduled to further discuss the drafts and make a decision. The public is asked to attend.

Service Club
Guest Speaker
We will be having Bruce Ives, Executive Director of
LifeMoves, as a guest speaker at our Service Team Meeting during lunch on November 17. He will discuss homelessness and share what he has learned over the years through his work.
Toiletry Kit Drive for Families at Haven House Shelter
We will be assembling toiletry kits on the December 1 Service Team Meeting for the families living in the interim shelter at Haven House. We would appreciate any donations for this project. Please use this
Sign-Up Genius to sign up to donate supplies to make 100 kits! You may drop off your items in the bin in the Hillview office between Friday, November 18 to Tuesday, November 22. We will be delivering these kits to Haven House, a local shelter, on December 1 after school.
Intramural Sports
Intramural sports continue through holiday break with indoor soccer and hockey. One side of the gym will be soccer while the other side will be hockey. All students welcome, but only a certain number can play at a time. If there is more than the limit we will rotate players on and off the court. Spectators are welcome to sit on bleachers or stage. Please no food or drink in gym.
Burgess League Volleyball
We congratulate and commend the efforts of the
6th graders who had their playoffs last Tuesday. All six teams performed
very well. Special congratulations goes to Hillview Team 3 coached
by Julie Cronin and Adam Kerr. They won the championship defeating
the undefeated Woodside Elementary Team. This Monday the 7th and
8th graders will play their final league matches with the playoffs being
played on Tuesday. We wish them all the best of luck.
Flag Football
Flag football is now officially over. All three Hillview Teams had great seasons. The 8th grade team in particular won 8 games, lost 1, and tied
2. We ask all players to please return their jerseys if they haven't already.
Jerseys can be returned to Mrs. Bell in the administration office.
Tournament Team Basketball Announcements
Both boys and girls tournament teams will play their first games of the
season this week. The boys will play on Friday, November 18, 4:00 p.m. v Palo Alto
and Saturday, November 19, 6:00 p.m. The girls will play Saturday,
November 19, 5:00 p.m. We invite the Hillview community to
come and watch support both teams. All three games will be played in the
Hillview Gym.
Burgess League and 8th grade MPMSL Basketball
Teams
have all been formed. Practice officially starts following Thanksgiving
Break. Many teams will start practicing earlier however. If you have
questions please check with your coaches or Mr. Bell. League games will
begin in early December.

Boy Scouts Troop 206 - Come See What It's All About - No Experience Necessary
Come to a Monday meeting to learn about Troop 206, a group of 40 boys from Menlo Park, Atherton, Redwood City and Woodside. Troop 206 offers a strong tradition of boy leadership and a varied program of fun, adventure, learning and comradeship to boys in late 5th to 12th grade. We meet three Mondays a month in Menlo Park. Monthly outings include backpacking, kayaking, archery, rock climbing, snow camping, skiing and Camporees. Experienced adult leaders work with Scouts. No prior Scouting experience necessary. Science Night at the Menlo Park Main Library

Community Service Opportunities
Cub Scouts Annual Food Drive

In support of Second Harvest Food Bank, Oak Knoll Cub Scout Pack 222 is again organizing the school food drive for those in need in the community. Please bring non-perishable food to the SHFB bins on the Drop-Off Line and next to the Front Office. The most needed items are meals in a can, tuna and other canned meats, peanut butter, canned fruits and vegetables, low sugar cereals, and fruit juices. All contributions go directly to
Second Harvest Food Bank
of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.
All Students Matter
February 6 - March 31, Brentwood Academy. If you've enjoyed helping in your own child's classroom, or just love literacy, please consider tutoring 5th graders at Brentwood School in East Palo Alto (near IKEA). This is a special project to work with low-income students. Volunteers will work in the same classroom once a week for eight weeks; the hour-long sessions will be held either at 9:45 a.m. (reading) or 11:40 a.m. (writing).
