Roxbury Schools Honor Our Nation's Veterans
Two of Roxbury Township Public Schools celebrated and honored our nation's Veterans this week. Both Eisenhower Middle School and Lincoln/Roosevelt Elementary School held special presentations for Veterans and students on Wednesday. Click here to read more and to see pictures from these programs.
Marching Gaels Place 2nd at Weekend Competition
Saturday, November 5th at The USBands New England Regional Championship, The Marching Gaels placed 2nd in Class IV Open preliminary competition with a score of 91.9 and received captions for best percussion and best music. This placed them into the finals and they raised their score to 92.55! We are so proud of their season but more so of the amazing kids they are all around! Nixon Schools Receives Grant for 'ABCs of Movement'
 Nixon School recently found out that a grant proposed by Ann Martini,
a Physical Education and Health teacher at the school has been awarded by the
New Jersey Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NJAHPERD) for a new ABCs of Movement initiative.
This grant seeks to help the school foster and create new meaningful applications of the students' Occupational and Physical Therapies in alternative settings, such as adaptive physical education, while also helping to increase student motivation to be active and in turn contribute towards an improved quality of life.
The tricycles being proposed in this grant would be beneficial to the program as a means to improve the students' coordination and gross motor function, as well as, their strength, endurance, limb function, and mobility.
Lincoln/Roosevelt Holds Mock Presidential Election
In preparation of this past Tuesday's Presidential Election, students at Lincoln/Roosevelt Elementary School learned about the voting process with a mock presidential election that declared Donald Trump the winner in a landslide.
In an effort to teach the students about the democratic process, each homeroom was assigned a state to represent from the Electoral College.
Interim principal Cecil "Bud" Beavers came up with the idea to show the students first-hand how the popular vote versus the electoral vote worked in this country.

EMS Character Education Committee Honored at Board Of Ed Meeting
The Roxbury Board of Education honored a handful of Eisenhower Middle School students at its Monday night board of education meeting for their participation in the EMS student-driven Police Unity Tour last May.
The purpose of the unity tour was to recognize and acknowledge police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. More than 20,000 officers have lost their lives to date, with 119 losing their lives just this year alone. This project also allotted students the opportunity to interact with their local police officers and to honor their daily efforts.
The middle school is already hard at work planning for the next unity tour which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24th with a rain date of May 25th at Horseshoe Lake. Part of this coming year's program is to make the course two laps longer, hold a half-day schedule so the entire school can participate in the event, and to have school clubs be more involved. Each club and group will represent a fallen officer.

Kayla Bedel-Franklin Signs to Sacred Heart
It's official! Kayla Bedel-Franklin to play field hockey next fall for Sacred Heart University! Surrounded by coaches, teammates, and family, Roxbury High School Senior signed her letter of intent on Wednesday at the school.

Roxbury Girls Soccer Beats Nutley to Move Ahead in State Tournament
The Roxbury High School girls soccer team easily defeated the team from Nutley on Nov. 4 to move ahead in the NJSIAA state tournament.
The Gaels beat Nutley 6-0. Roxbury was seeded fourth in the game while Nutley was the fifth seed. The win put Roxbury's seasonal record at 15-3.1.
Roxbury Volleyball Wins Second Round in States With a Shutout
The Roxbury High School volleyball team on Friday won a second-round NJSIAA tournament match against Moorestown and is now gearing up to take on the state champions.
The Gaels, now 16-7, beat Moorestown 2-0 with easy victories in both games - 25-12 and 25-19 - despite Moorestown's impressive record of 23-6 coming into the match.

EMS Boys Cross Country Takes Second
The Eisenhower Middle School Boys Cross Country team competed in the Morris County Cross County Championships at Greystone Park on November 2. The boys placed second.

Roxbury Falls to West Morris But Reaches Playoffs
 Last Friday the Roxbury High School football team lost to West Morris 34-17.
Roxbury (4-4) ended its regular season losing two straight and three of its last four games.
On Sunday, Roxbury officially received good news.
Roxbury has been awarded the eighth-seed in NJSIAA's North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 state playoffs and will visit top-seeded Wayne Hills (8-1), No. 14 in the
NJ.com
Top 20, in Friday's first round with first kickoff slated for 7 p.m. in Wayne.

Roxbury Football Takes a Hit Due to State Reversal of NJSIAA Decision
The Roxbury High School football game scheduled for Friday has been postponed, but the Gaels might have to play two games next week, thanks to a late Thursday decision by the state education commissioner.
The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) on Thursday was ordered by state Department of Education Commissioner Kimberly Harrington to postpone
a playoff ban it imposed on the Wayne Hills High School football team on Tuesday, according to reports. Wayne Hills was initially disqualified from the NJSIAA North 1 Group 4 playoffs after it self-reported a rules violation, a decision that gave a win to Roxbury, which was supposed to play Wayne Hills in a Friday night playoff contest.

State Championship Dreams End for Roxbury Volleyball, Girls Soccer
 The state championship dreams of Roxbury High School's volleyball and girls soccer teams were dashed Tuesday when both lost their NJSIAA tournament contests.
The soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Northern Highlands.
Despite the elimination from the tournament, the soccer team had a great year, ending the season with a 15-4-1 record and having won the Morris County Championship.
The volleyball team's season came to a close with a 1-2 tournament quarterfinal round loss to Old Tappan. The Gaels came out strong, winning the first game 25-22, but falling in the second game 12-25 and finding themselves unable to regroup for the deciding match, which they lost 14-25.
The team ended up with a 16-8 record.

CCM Fifth Annual Photo Contest for High School Students Prizes for First, Second and Third Place Winners
 New Jersey high school students with an eye for photography have until April 15, 2017 to enter the County College of Morris (CCM) Fifth Annual Photo Contest for the chance to win prizes and be recognized at a CCM art exhibition.
High-school-age photographers are invited to submit photos representing their definition of family. "Entries should go beyond the traditional definition of family as by birth or marriage and instead explore a contemporary, personal definition of family such as friendship, community, nation, global village and beyond," says Professor Hrvoje Slovenc, who teaches photography at CCM. "Contestants also are encouraged to depict all the good and bad that relationships bring."
Winning photographs, honorable mentions and finalists will be featured in an exhibition also including work by CCM photography students. The exhibit will take place next May in CCM's Art and Design gallery. Winners are required to submit high-resolution files for the exhibition and may need to show proof of ID and authorship.

Roxbury High School will be hosting its next College Fair on Tuesday, November 15th in the Media Center from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend. Students must sign up for a time to attend in advance with their guidance counselors.

Roxbury Township Public Schools are continuously collecting "Box Tops for Education" at our K-8 schools.
This is an easy, practically effortless way to raise funds for our schools by purchasing items you buy all the time.
Clipped box tops can be sent to any of our K-8 schools district-wide. School addresses can be found on our website at www.roxbury.org.
Roxbury Alumni Association is Looking for Board of Directors
 The Roxbury Alumni Association is looking to expand its current board of directors. They are looking for energetic alum interested in getting involved with Alumni Association and to add new members to its board. Interested individuals should reach out to Mr. Charlie Alpaugh the president of the association at 973-584-8805.
The Roxbury Alumni Association was established in the early 1900s and formally incorporated in 1968. Every year the Alumni Association provides a scholarship to a graduating senior. The association also purchases a Echo yearbook and donates it to the Roxbury Township Library for its archive.
Membership is only $10 and with your gift, you directly support the ability for the Alumni Association to continue giving a RHS grad a scholarship. You are also supporting the association as it develops new programs and events for you to enjoy.

Roxbury Police Food Drive to Help Social Services and Teach Kids Empathy
The Roxbury Police Department's annual food drive to benefit Roxbury Social Services is underway.
The yearly effort allows people to bring non-perishable items to the police station on Route 46 in Ledgewood. The items will be collected by the police department and delivered to the Roxbury Social Services Food Pantry on the day before Thanksgiving, police said.
One thing that makes the police department's food drive special is that it offers parents an opportunity to teach children about "taking an active role in their community by helping to fight hunger," police said. When a child brings items to be donated, they will be named a "Fighting Hunger Hero" and get their photo taken with a police officer. The picture will go on the Roxbury Police Department's Facebook page, the child will be given a T-shirt and some will be picked to get a tour of the police station.

Medicare Open Enrollment Assistance Comes To Succasunna
Trained/Certified volunteer Medicare counselors will be scheduling appointments at no cost at 109 Main Street in Succasunna, NJ from November 1 - December 7, 2016.
Skylands RSVP of Northwest NJ Community Action Partnership, Inc. (NORWESCAP) establishes dedicated enrollment centers to assist beneficiaries in Morris County to choose the proper prescription plan (Part D) for the upcoming year.
The Succasunna Center will also host a Free Open Enrollment Workshop on, Wednesday, October 26 at 7 pm. Attendees will get all the latest updates and the opportunity to ask questions. Seating is limited and RSVP is required. Call 973-970-9250 to reserve your spot at this informative workshop.

Roxbury Rotary's Annual Fruit & Pie Sale
 Fruit from the Roxbury Rotary Annual Fruit and Pie Sale can be picked up from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
at the Horseshoe Lake parking lot at 72 Eyland Avenue in Succasunna on Saturday, November 19th.
Tickets are available for boxes of California navel oranges, California pink grapefruit, pears, apples, and tangerines. Pies can also be ordered, such as apple, peach praline, French Silk cream, lemon meringue, pecan, pumpkin, caramel apple walnut, and key lime.

Poster Contest for Fifth Grade Students*
Let your fifth grader's talents shine in the 10th annual Conserve to Preserve Kids (CTP) and Conservation Poster Contest through New Jersey National Gas. This contest is open to all fifth graders within the NJNG's service territory. The poster contest encourages students to illustrate an NJNG energy-saving tip for a chance to win one of three tablets. Each winning student's school receives $1,000 contribution toward an energy-conservation or environmental project and their teacher will receive $100 gift card.
Video Contest for High School Students*
Lights, camera, action ... Put your directional talents on display with New Jersey Natural Gas's sixth annual CTP Kids and Conservation Video contest! The contest is open to high school students (13 years and older) who attend traditional school or are home-schooled within their service territory. The contest calls for students to artistically showcase their energy-saving efforts and ideas through film. Both individually and group/class projects are accepted.
The individual video winner will receive $500 and the winning group submission will receive $2,500. Plus their school will receive a $1,000 contribution toward an energy-conservation or environmental project.
NJNG's community partner, the Asbury Park Press, will feature the top videos on their website. Visitors to the site will vote for their favorite and choose the winner for the $500 Viewer's Choice Award.

Blood Drive at the First Presbyterian Church of Succasunna
A blood drive will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Succasunna at 99 Main Street in Succasunna on Sunday, November 13th. Walks-ins are welcome. Hot soup will be available for all donors.
To give blood, donors must be in good health, weigh 110 pounds or more and be at least 17 (16 with parental consent.) Donors must eat, drink and bring ID.

Roxbury Community School Ski Club 2016/2017
The purpose of the Roxbury Community School's Ski and Snowboard Club is to provide students the opportunity to ski and/or snowboard at local mountain resorts. Students will be provided with transportation to and from the mountains. Students will be required to attend meetings, return all necessary forms, and pay a fee for transportation/chape

The Roxbury Community School is dedicated to helping students prepare for college through a few different avenues.

Young Rembrants is hosting how to draw classes for both parents and children using an engaging methodology that all can succeed with. We learn about drawing and art while developing academic, conceptual, and critical thinking skills. We have fun too!

Registrations are now being accepted for winter Young Rembrandt classes through the elementary schools after school. Do you have a little artist in your midst and are in hopes of finding a fun and creative confidence-boosting outlet for them? If so, then the Young Rembrandts winter course is just for them! Young Rembrandts teaches children the technical skills of drawing, the basis of all visual arts, in a fun and nurturing setting. Our drawing instruction is easy to follow ensuring success regardless of artistic ability.

Kujenga Robotics and Coding Upcoming Programs
After School with Kujenga - Fall (Session 2) and Winter
 The Roxbury Community School has teamed up with KUJENGA, an educational entity designed to bring robotics, coding, engineering and science skills to all students in order to prepare them for the technology-driven future. Kujenga is the Swahili word for "build" or "create". We are here to open a world of imagination and creativity for your child while they learn design and engineering principles as well as science, math and coding.

Mad Science After School (Winter Classes)
Registrations are now being taken for winter Mad Science programs after school programs at the five elementary schools in district. Join their hands-on, one-hour science programs that are themed around a particular area of science This winter K-4 students will see if they are smarter than a mad scientist and Lincoln/Roosevelt students will learn some "Fairly Odd Forces". Cost: $90 per student.

Accents on Dance Upcoming Programs
Hip Hop Dance After School
 Hip Hop is an eclectic street style of dance that is performed in running shoes to current upbeat tempos. The dynamic moves taught in Hip Hop class are fast, stylish, funky and similar to those seen in music videos.
This class is appropriate for high energy dancers that are driven by a beat. Similar to a Jazz class, Hip Hop is broken down into 3 parts - warm up, corner work/technique and choreography. Students in a Hip Hop class will work on their strength, flexibility, and musicality through intricate fun and fast paced funky choreography.
Since the tempos are usually quicker than any other dance form, the choreography in a Hip Hop class provides a great cardio workout and is also a fun way to exercise the mind and memory.
(Children should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers to class)

Recreational Dance at Jefferson School
 Join the Accents on Dance Studio in this new program for boys and girls in grades K-4.
This program is a win/win opportunity for both parents and children. We are creating a dance class that will expose dancers to Jazz, Musical Theatre, Ballet, and Lyrical forms of dance.

Mommy and Me Dance at Accents on Dance Studio
 Join the Accents on Dance Studio for this new program which is the perfect introduction to dance for our very youngest dancers. Ages 18 mos. to 3 years old are invited to attend a 6 week session of "Mommy & Me". These classes are structured to stimulate coordination skills, listening skills, balance, music interpretation, creative movement and motor development in the youngest dancers.

Princess Dance Party at Accents on Dance Studio
 Princesses will have a magical time dancing and making new friends at our Princess Dance Party. Throughout the class, they will learn how to dance like a princess, make magical crafts and also learn about the values a princess lives

and helpfulness. Little princesses will enjoy songs,
stories,
and princess-inspired crafts. Dressing up in princess attire is strongly encouraged!

Hypnosis Workshops
 Join Barry Wolfson for a special set of workshops for Smoking Cessation, Weight Loss, and Relaxation through Hypnosis. Each workshop includes hypnosis exercises, discussion, and an option CD for $18, which assists in reinforcing immediate results.
Hypnosis is a medically approved method of tapping the normally inaccessible power of the mind and correcting negative behavior.

 Spring Kiddie Soccer
Register for the seasonal 8-week spring Kiddie Soccer for ages 3.5-6 years old. The program teaches a series of fun, thematic games designed to teach the children the very basics of soccer. Spring sessions meet on Sundays starting April 9th at Lincoln/Roosevelt field. Tuition starts at $130 per child.

 Winter Intramurals at L/R
Register now for this 11-week session (22 total sessions) to play floor hockey, basketball, and volleyball before school from 7:15-8:15 AM just for Lincoln/Roosevelt students. Your child will have the opportunity to play a variety of sports and activities. The groups are typically co-ed and broken up randomly each day.
This session begins on Tuesday, December 6th and ends on Thursday, February 23rd in the L/R gymnasium. Cost is $200 per student.

 Getting Paid to Talk Workshop
Ever been told you have a great voice? From audio books and cartoons to documentaries, commercials, and more, this class will introduce you to the growing field of voice over. Learn what the pros look for, how to prepare, and where to find work in your area! You'll even have an opportunity to record a short professional script under the direction of a teacher.
The next workshop is Thursday, April 6th at Roxbury High School. Tuition is $15 per person.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular
THIS TRIP IS SOLD OUT!
Every year the Community School takes a bus into New York City to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
There is no better way to ring in the holiday spirit than a visit to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular while leaving the driving into Manhattan to someone else.
Enjoy prime seating and have a chance to take a picture with Santa!

Sometimes it's nice to go somewhere without any concrete plans and have an opportunity to let a day leisurely unfold. If you've had this thought, then this trip is for you

Enjoy the spirit of the city's holiday season. Walk along Fifth Avenue and view the amazingly decorated holiday windows of famous stores, visit St. Patrick's Cathedral, dine on your schedule at a restaurant of your choice, see Rockefeller Center's Tree and the ice-skaters at its rink. You're free to choose whether to shop, visit Times Square attractions or a city museum or two.
The way you spend your day is up to you, but you'll travel by luxury bus to and from a central Manhattan location.
