Getting & Staying Healthy
In 1974, I enjoyed learning about physical fitness and wellness from an instructor at Richland College named Bill Neal. The last time I visited him, in 2014, Bill was STILL teaching the same things and STILL healthy. His biggest advice to me in 1974 is to take on an activity pattern and stay with it. Our bodies, by design, adapt to patterns.

Many people cycle through the spring, summer and fall only to quit cycling in the winter months. With their lower levels of activity, they tend to lose the fitness levels that they built up while cycling. Then, come spring time, they have to rebuild their fitness.

16 years ago, we launched a winter program that offered a compromise. A way to reduce your time in the saddle and retain a good level of fitness. That way, you can enter the spring cycling season with a fitness level that will allow you to enjoy your rides. Come try one of our indoor cycling sessions at no charge and see why many of our clients have been cycling with us for over 10 years.

There are 2 holiday rides coming up. The Turkey Roll in Denton and the Happy New Rear Ride in Blue Ridge. Check out the details below.

Add a little safety tip and you've got our newsletter of the week. Ride on!
Denton, TX - November 19

This annual ride happens on Thanksgiving weekend no matter what the weather. Through the years, they have seen warmer and colder, wetter and drier, even icy rides. They offer routes of 8, 29, 39, 52 and 68 miles. The King Family Barbecue Rest Stop sounds like my kind of place PLUS they offer a post ride sausage snack! The 9am start time gives you a little more time to get there and the temperature a little more time to warm up.

Blue Ridge, TX - January 1, 2017

We launched our Happy New Rear Ride back in 2000 as an opportunity to give the new year a healthy start. We offer 3 routes and a post ride meal of black-eyed peas and cornbread (carnivore & vegetarian recipes) for all our riders. Blue Ridge is located in Northeast Collin County and about a one hour drive from Plano. Register before December 1 and you can order one of our long sleeved T-shirts. We offer a 10am start so that you can have a little time to relax and enjoy the morning.
Stay Focused to Stay Safe

Whether we are riding alone, with a friend or with a group, I am convinced that the main ingredient for safe cycling is focus. I need to pay attention to what is happening around me. Road surfaces. Autos. Intersections. Cyclists around me. Wheels in front of me. Animals. Cracks and road seams. It seems that something always happens to take our attention. We lose focus and suddenly we are crashing. The only way we can protect ourselves is to stay focused on staying safe. Avoid the possible distractions and don't look down while you are clipping into those pedals - or you might hit that road crack in front of you!

Stay Fit while Building Skills

Indoor cycling (using your own bicycle on a stationary trainer) is a great way to stay fit while improving your pedal motion. It is also a great way to enhance your outdoor cycling experience by building more power and better cardio-respiratory fitness. Riding indoors alone can be rather boring and challenging. Our Indoor Cycling provides all the benefits and adds the fun of other people being there to share the experience. We design the workouts so that all you have to do is show up and ride. Click the link and find out more now.
During the winter months you can also take a break from outdoor cycling to go to the gym, take a yoga class or a spin class and/or get into weight training. No matter what choice you make, please remember that your body will adapt to that pattern. When it comes to fitness, you are what you do - so respect and honor your body for best results.

Ride on!
