Make Your Voice Heard

Want to have your opinion heard on issues of state-wide importance in your practice area? Have an idea for an article for a state-wide audience? Take advantage of your WBASNY membership and add your voice. 

We are looking for members to join substantive law committees such as children's rights; criminal; employment and labor; environmental; family/matrimonial; and international women's rights. We also need members to join committees that guide the organization's work, such as diversity and amicus curiae. Your time commitment can be as little as an hour or two a month, to take part in conference call discussions and votes.

Or maybe you have an idea for a scholarly article that you would like published in the WBASNY newsletter. Articles must be 375 words or less and can be forwarded to  [email protected].

Your CNYWBA membership includes membership to the statewide organization, WBASNY. Get your money's worth and have your voice heard!

Mass Criminalization Panel Discussion

Please join us for a multifaceted discussion of mass criminalization in Syracuse.  On Friday, November 18, NYCLU Central New York Chapter will host a panel discussion that you will not want to miss.  The panel includes practicing attorneys, law professors, community activists and organizers.  The event is at the Community Folk Art Center.

CJA Mentoring Program 

The Criminal Justice Act ("CJA") Committee of the Eastern District of New York is implementing a new Mentoring Program for criminal practitioners who are interested in gaining federal criminal experience and participating in the CJA Panel.  Although one objective of the Mentoring Program is to encourage increased diversity among our Panel members, all interested, qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. 
 
Applications are available on the  EDNY webpage and must be submitted to the Clerk of Court on or before November 23, 2016. 
 


Public Notices to the Bar - Magistrate Judge Vacancy and Call for Comments

On October 15th, 2016, a US Magistrate Judge vacancy was created in Brooklyn, NY. A merit Selection Panel was appointed by the Board of Judges on November 3, 2016 to consider all applications and provide the court with its recommendations within 90 days. Please see the public announcement below. Applications are due by January 9th, 2017. A link to the current application is included below.

The same Merit Selection Panel will consider any public comments sent prior to December 5, 2016 on the reappointments of US Magistrate Judges Steven M. Gold and Lois Bloom. Please see the link below for the public announcement on this comment period.
