Thank You for Believing in Our Kids
Dear DPS Community,
Supt. Tom Boasberg

Thank you for believing in our kids and our schools! We are excited to get to work on the truly amazing opportunities made possible by your approval of our bond and mill levy funding measures this week.

In next week's newsletter, we will provide more detailed information about our next steps with this new investment, including how you can be involved -- whether that's service on our community oversight committees or weighing in on spending at your school.

For now, I simply want to express my deep gratitude for your vote of support and the promise that holds for tens of thousands of Denver kids.

Best,
Tom
Students Honor Veterans in School Celebrations Across Denver
Students at Stedman Elementary, led by music teacher and veteran Clint Moore, far left, during a performance from the musical "We Honor the Brave" on Veterans Day.

Students in schools across Denver participated in celebrations of Veterans Day today. Example include  Brown International Academy, where students invited active and retired members of the armed services to an assembly that included students performing patriotic songs and North High School students assisting with the presentation of colors and a history of why Veterans Day is celebrated.

At Florida Pitt Waller, Principal Charles Babb, also known at Lt. Col. Babb for his 21 years of active service, hosted an assembly so students could learn about the meaning of the American flag from a veteran who is a Math Fellow at the school. In addition, they honored fallen soldiers.

And at Stedman Elementary, the music teacher is Clint Moore, a veteran of Operation Inherent Resolve and an active member of the Colorado Army National Guard, where he serves as a helicopter pilot. He led choir students in performing songs from the musical, "We Honor the Brave," in two concerts for the school and community.
Great Schools Expo Kicks Off School Choice Season; Enrollment Guides Available Next Week in Schools
North High School supporters at the Great Schools Expo on Wednesday.
Nearly 2,000 DPS students, families and school leaders attended the 2016 Great Schools Expo, held Wednesday night at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The event kicks off the 2017-18 SchoolChoice process, and DPS families can now begin to narrow their list of potential school choices.

These resources may help families with their research:
  • Great Schools Enrollment Guides: Online versions are now available here in English and Spanish. Printed editions of the guides will be available in all DPS schools beginning next week.
  • School Performance Framework reports: Another tool that families use in their school search is the School Performance Framework rating system, or SPF. Scores for individual schools will be mailed to families in mid-December, and can also be accessed at spf.dpsk12.org

It all leads up to the SchoolChoice season, Jan. 5-31, when students rank their top five school preferences on the SchoolChoice form, available online and at all DPS schools. Click here to learn more.
