The ten tour writers are: Diran Adebayo, Jay Bernard, Bernardine Evaristo, Gabriel Gbadamosi, Colin Grant, Nick Makoha, Karen McCarthy Woolf, Johny Pitts, Roger Robinson and Warsan Shire.

Assistant Professor - Arizona State University

School of Social Transformation (job # 11344)

The School of Social Transformation, an interdisciplinary unit at Arizona State University (http://sst/clas/edu/), invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor with expertise in research (with quantitative emphasis) and teaching surrounding the causes, consequences of and solutions to structural inequality and discrimination in the United States. The successful candidate will be expected to provide excellent instruction, conduct research publishable in top-tier academic journals, and participate in service to the university and profession. Anticipated start date is August, 2016.

Desired areas of foci include any of the following: economic justice, poverty, income inequality, or examination of ways that structural inequality affects socio-legal justice for vulnerable populations. The successful candidate must have a PhD in a relevant social science field or related interdisciplinary field (e.g., ethnic studies, gender studies, American studies, justice studies, law and society, etc.) or show evidence that the PhD will be completed by August 1, 2016. All candidates must have demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring students. Evidence of potential for success in securing external funding is desired. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in quantitative research, those demonstrating a willingness and ability to teach quantitative methods and/or statistics to graduate as well as undergraduate students, and evidence of interest in interdisciplinary collaborations.

National Call for Applications

The James Weldon Johnson Institute of Emory University - Visiting Fellows Program

The James Weldon Johnson Institute of Emory University invites applications for its Visiting Fellows Program. Supported by a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Visiting Fellows Program provides three fellowships for both junior and senior scholars and their career equivalents each academic year. We welcome applications from scholars in the humanities, the humanistic social sciences and law. We are interested in research projects across the spectrum of the humanities, humanistic social science, and professional disciplines that examine the origins, evolution, impact and legacy of race, difference, and the modern quest for civil and human rights. We also support research projects that examine race and ethnicity and its points of intersection with other identities and movements addressing differences along gender, class, religious, or sexual lines. Fellows will each teach one course in the spring semester. The deadline for applications is February 16, 2016. Visiting Fellows will be in residence at Emory's Johnson Institute for the academic year 2016-2017. Candidates must hold a Ph. D. by the start of the fellowship period in August 2016.

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status as of the application deadline.
  • We do not support the completion of doctoral dissertations nor projects in creative writing. Scholars at the level of assistant professors may apply for one grant renewal. When applying for the renewal, scholars will compete for a fellowship among the new pool of applicants.
Award
  • $60,000 for full Professor and equivalent with benefits
  • $40,000 for Associate Professor and equivalent with benefits
  • $30,000 for Assistant Professor and equivalent with benefits
  • Period of Residency: one academic year

Position Title
Associate/Full Professor - Gender and Sexuality Studies (2016/17)

Position Description We are particularly interested in attracting candidates who will be able to establish a strong research program in the areas of: queer studies, transnational gender/sexualities studies, feminist studies, transgender studies, reproductive health, gendered, classed and/or racial inequities.

Candidates from all disciplines are encouraged to submit applications; the successful applicant will hold an appointment in an appropriate university department (e.g., Sociology, American Studies, or Geography and the Environment).  They will also be expected to participate in teaching activities at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, to have an active publishing agenda, to attract external funding, and to exhibit a commitment to service to the university, department and center.  Additionally, the hired candidate is expected to direct dissertations, MA reports, and honors theses.

Qualifications A Ph.D., evidence of teaching excellence and a strong research agenda in the applicant's discipline are requirements.

The successful candidate will provide intellectual leadership and vision within the Center for Women's & Gender Studies and should have experience with and commitment to an intellectual community in an interdisciplinary center.  Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience.

Conference Theme: Voices of a Global Black Community: Life in America and Beyond
 
The Association of Social and Behavioral Scientists welcomes the submission of session proposals and paper submissions for its 81st Annual Conference that will be held in Jackson, Mississippi on March 9-12, 2016. Sessions and papers related to the 2016 conference theme are welcome. The theme focuses on the experiences of communities of African descent, in the U.S., the Diaspora, and the continent. Rooted in the social and behavioral sciences, this is a broad, multidisciplinary focus on issues facing a global Black community.

Journal of Africana Religions Founders Launch New Book Series

Evanston, IL - Pennsylvania State University Press has partnered with the editors of the Journal of Africana Religions , which is co-sponsored by ASWAD, to publish " Africana Religions ," a book series inspired by the journal's vision.

"Like the journal," according to series co-editor Sylvester A. Johnson of Northwestern University, "the book series will emphasize the translocal nature of Africana religions across national, regional, and hemispheric boundaries."

"We want to publish academic monographs in addition to books designed for classroom use about Africana religious experiences, identities, beliefs, aesthetics, ethics, and institutions," said Edward E. Curtis IV, co-editor from the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts in Indianapolis. "And we welcome a variety of methods, including archival, theoretical, literary, sociological, and ethnographic approaches.

The series' prestigious editorial board includes Afe Adogame of Princeton Theological Seminary, Sylviane Diouf of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Paul Christopher Johnson of the University of Michigan, Elizabeth PĂ©rez of Dartmouth College, Elisha P. Renne of the University of Michigan, and Judith Weisenfeld of Princeton University.

Potential authors should send 3-5 page proposals outlining the intent of the project, its scope, its relation to other work on the topic, and potential audience. Lecturer - African Diasporic Dance Forms
