Schools Around the District Observe Veterans Day

Schools around the district observed Veterans Day in a number ways over the last week and will continue today, whether through special assemblies, activities or classroom speakers.

At top, Mr. Scott Seyler (father to Cochran third-grade student Franciska Seyler) spoke to Ms. Liz Sauer's class on Nov. 10 about his experience in the U.S. Army from 1983-88 in honor of Veteran's Day.

Above, seventh-grade students at Williamsport Area Middle School watched the performance of Letters Home, of the Chicago-based Griffin Theatre, on Nov. 3, which brought to life actual letters written by soldiers in combat to family members from Iraq and Afghanistan.  "Letters Home" was presented and funded by the West Branch Arts Consortium.  The group also performed at Loyalsock Township, Milton, Warrior Run and Selinsgrove.
'Dodge Drugs Dodgeball' Event Held at WAMS; City Police Join Game with Students
Students at Williamsport Area Middle School wrapped up Red Ribbon Week recently with a Dodge Drugs Dodgeball event in Mrs. Sara Watson and Mrs. Amy Bolt's health and physical education classes on Oct. 28.   With special guests from the Williamsport Bureau of Police, students continued learning about drug prevention by interacting with the police force while also hearing about the negative effects of drugs throughout the event.   Red Ribbon Week serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!   ICYMI, see more on the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank's new BackPack Program at WAHS and how the program also is benefitting students at Lycoming Valley Intermediate School, as broadcast on WBRE-TV.
