On November 3, 2016 In Chicago I attended a public health talk presented by Dr. William Sears (Dr. Bill), known as America's Pediatrician. In case you don't know Dr. Bill along with a busy medical practice in California is the author or co-author of more than 50 parenting books, has frequented television talk shows such as the  Today Show and was featured in  Time Magazine (May 2012)

Dr. Bill has a unique talent for transforming very complex topics into easy to understand usable information. This may come from talking with children all day in his medical practice. But lets' face it we're all just big kids anyway, so why not keep it easy when it comes to important issues such as your health?

We are not eating enough fruits and vegetables. You know it, your doctor knows it even your granny knows it.  We all know fruits and vegetables are good for you. What you may not know they can save your life. Surprised?

It's not a new idea. As long as 2400 years ago Hippocrates who is considered to be the father of modern medicine is known for saying "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." Seems pretty clear cut to me. How about you?

Diabetes in the Work Place It's Costing You

November is National Diabetes Awareness month. As a country the total estimated cost of diagnosed diabetes in 2012 was $245 billion, including $176 billion in direct medical costs and $69 billion in reduced productivity. It is predicted 50% of us who were born after 2000 will be diagnosed with diabetes at some point in their lifetime.  

Let's use this opportunity to raise awareness in the work place about diabetes risk factors and encourage those where you work to make healthy changes. How do we do that?

In the News This Week 
Health officials find first cases of new superbug in US

Just five months after federal health officials asked hospitals and physicians to be on the lookout for an often-fatal, antibiotic-resistant fungus called  Candida auris , 13 cases have been reported, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday. 

It is the first time that the fungus, which is easily misidentified in lab tests as a more common candida yeast infection, has been found in the US, and four of the first seven patients with it have died.
