LET'S RETIRE LONELINESS: VIDEO ABOUT SENIORS ISOLATION

The City of Edmonton Council Initiative on Urban Isolation and Mental Health has created a powerful video as part of the Hello How are you? campaign. The video focuses on isolation and loneliness among Edmonton's older population and issues a call to action that we can retire loneliness by starting with a simple "Hello, how are you?"

BURSARIES FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Muttart Foundation offers two bursary programs that help build organizational capacity of charities through staff and key volunteer professional development. The bursaries are open to registered charities working in the social service and early childhood education and care fields.
The Muttart Bursary Program and the Muttart Leadership Program cover the tuition or registration costs of courses, programs, conferences or other training opportunities offered by a non-profit entity or a publicly-funded post-secondary institution.

HOLIDAY ENTERTAINMENT

The Richard Eaton Songsters (community outreach initiative of the Richard Eaton Singers) are available to perform at seniors organizations and residences. Their recommended honorarium is $150; however, they are able to offer a limited number of pro bono engagements each year.

As of November 4 they had the following dates and times available:
December 11: afternoon and/or evening
December 16: evening
December 18: afternoon and/or evening
Afternoons after 2 p.m.
Evenings 7 p.m.

CHRISTMAS/HOLIDAY MEALS INFO FOR 211

211 is compiling the annual 211 Winter Holiday/Christmas Meals List which highlights free or low-cost holiday and Christmas meals. Phone 780-392-8722 or e-mail [email protected] to make sure your organization's meal is on the list.

Volunteer/Work Opportunities for Seniors
OFFICE VOLUNTEER
Drive Happiness

Are you friendly and well spoken? Drive Happiness is looking for a volunteer for their office at 75 Street and 139 Avenue. They are flexible on the time commitment, but would prefer two, 3-4 hour shifts per week. Duties will vary. This position would suit someone who is comfortable answering questions about the non profit organization. Call 780-964-1494 for details.

If you enjoy chatting with seniors and still like to drive, Drive Happiness, a local not for profit organization would love to hear from you. Even two hours a week can change a senior's life. Call 780-424-5438 for information.
