Wow.  I can't believe it is November already and we are in the midst of planning for 2017, which will be here before we know it.   Part of that work is preparing a budget, and part of preparing the budget is trying to estimate how much income we will have, so we can be responsible with our spending.   Next week you will be getting a letter in the mail asking you to make an estimate of your giving to help us in this process.   Please take moment to read the letter and consider what your gift will be in the coming year.  We will also be including your third quarter giving summary so you can review what you have done this year. Thank you for your generosity and faithfulness to be part of what God is doing through Joy Lutheran.

Operation Christmas Child

Be a part of the shoebox journey! Joy Lutheran Church Members are invited to participate again this year in Operation Christmas Child. Each Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift takes an amazing journey into the hands of a child in need-and that journey begins with you! Every shoebox you pack through Samaritan's Purse becomes a powerful tool for evangelism and discipleship, transforming the lives of children and families through the
Good News of Jesus Christ. After receiving shoebox gifts, boys and girls are invited to enroll in The Greatest Journey, a 12 lesson discipleship program where children learn to faithfully follow Christ and share their faith with others. Learn more about Operation Christmas Child at samaritanspurse.org/occ. Joy will have shoeboxes available for anyone who wants to participate in this amazing program. JWELCA Bible Study to be held Tuesday, November 8th

All women are invited to attend the November Bible Study to be held on Tuesday, November 8 at 1:30 P.M. in the Fireside Room at church. We will complete our fall study with its theme "When God Forgives the Guilty."
This month we will focus on the Apostle Paul, a man with a dubious past and a shaky present, who was chosen by God to lead and guide the early church into the future. We will discuss how Paul's failings help us to come to terms with a God who chooses the unlikely-including you and me. We will talk about our fear of inadequacy and failure and be comforted by the fact that God doesn't choose us by the caliber of our resume. Bible study leader will be Diane Meyer. Do join us!

First Communion Class

Joy Church will be offering a first communion class for students in the 4th grade or older* on Sunday November 6th after the 10:15am worship service. Parents and students are asked to attend together. If a parent is unable to attend please ask a grandparent.
The class will be a potluck starting at 11:30am-1:30pm. Please bring a dish to share.  The First Communion worship service will be Sunday November 13th at the 8:15am or 10:15am worship services. Later dates can be set up, please contact Pastor Steve or Christy with any questions.

*We suggest 4th grade as a time when many young people express and interest in Holy Communion.  But the grade level is not the only thing that matters, parents you know your child best and know their interest.  It is nice to be able to take advantage of teachable moments and offer the gift of the sacrament when they are ready for it.  So if you have questions contact Pastor Steve

Good Morning!
Breakfast
A Thank You from the Mission Committee
Thank you to everyone at Joy who purchased an apple pie, made by the Mission Committee and the youth, and sold on October 16th to raise funds for our sister church in Mikolongwe in our Companion Synod of Malawi. We have been helping that church build a new church building. Our donation this year will help them purchase materials for their new building. We also use about $250 of the proceeds each year to help fund the annual Pastor's Academy in Malawi. This provides the pastors from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Malawi to receive theological and English language training from two of our Northwest Wisconsin Synod pastors.

After expenses were taken out, we raised approximately $2100 that will be sent to Malawi. This was about double the amount we have made in previous years. Most of that "extra" money was due to our auctioning off two pies. Proceeds from the auctioned pies were $720.00 Thank you to Ken Knight for being our capable auctioneer and special thanks to the families of Peter Grey and Tom Peterson for being the winning bidders.  We are grateful for the help of our church and all who support this annual project. We appreciated the $250 grant we received from Thrivent Financial for this project and we are especially thankful for the leadership of Bobbie and Jim Flatz who chaired the project this year.

Thanks to the following 36 youth and adults who made all 160 pies on October 15th and enjoyed a fun inter-generational mission project:
