Dr. Biever was part of a group of local mental health professionals who envisioned a new support for individuals in our community living with chronic mental illness. Based upon the premise that "friendship is powerful medicine," Compeer, an international non-profit, was brought to Lebanon County in 1999.
Dr. Biever was instrumental in the start of Compeer locally. He has continued to remain active as a board member and volunteers as a "friend" to a CompeerCORPS client.
Board President Glenn Wikel Jr. presented Dr. Biever with a plaque honoring his life-time commitment to both Compeer and to caring for people in the recovery of their ment
al wellness. The text of the plaque reads:
On behalf of all current and previous members of the Board of Directors,
staff, volunteers and beneficiaries of Compeer,
it is with our sincere gratitude on this day,
the Twenty Ninth of October, Two Thousand and Sixteen,
that we formally recognize Dr. John Biever
for his eighteen years of wholehearted dedication to Compeer of Lebanon County.
We are humbled by your vision
in pioneering this innovative, supportive and caring organization.
It is our honor to follow your model and to call you "friend."
