The  DRC Half Marathon  is one of the oldest half marathons in the US and is well-attended by elite runners, casual runners, run-walkers and walkers. With its scenic lakeside course and traditionally good weather conditions, this race is a final goal for some or a test of endurance for those preparing for a winter marathon.


Registration for the 41st  DRC Half Marathon (13.1 miles), Relay and 5K 
is open.

October - Running Tangents:


The shortest distance between two points is a straight line.   

Every race is measured by the minimum amount of distance one could possibly run.  

For example, in a 10k, the least amount you could possibly run is 6.2 miles.  Most runners will finish a 10k with a GPS reading of somewhere between 6.3 and 6.7 miles.  

In road racing, there are no extra points for additional distance.  Spend this month concentrating on shortening all of the unnecessary miles during your runs.

Open Positions are as follows: 

Assistant Race Director (Club Races[CR], Signature Races[SR]) -
Assist the Race Directors with efforts associated with our monthly club and signature races, as well as maintaining cost controls and budgeting for the associated activities. This may include reserving the race site, obtaining city permits, coordination with the timing/sound company, registration, bib production, medical and police coordination, vendor management, water stop setup, post-race refreshments, awards, volunteer coordination, race site setup (includes lifting heavy equipment for the races), and other components that allow us to deliver a quality product to our members. Club races are on the first Saturday of the month (Jan[CR], Feb[CR], Mar[SR], Apr[CR], May[SR], June[CR], July[CR], Aug[CR], Sept[CR], Oct[CR], and Nov[SR]). The March race is at the Trinity River in a partnership with the City of Dallas.


Sponsorship Director
The Sponsorship Director is responsible for soliciting and obtaining monetary and in-kind sponsors for the club.  This includes vendors seeking to market their goods and services to club members at our races, training events, and expo.  It also includes in-kind donors that provide food, drinks, and running gear to our runners and volunteers.  The Sponsorship Director works closely with the Race Directors and the Marketing Directors to assist in identifying opportunities to limit or eliminate club expenses through the receipt of donations.
 
Assistant Volunteer Director 
This position will work alongside the Volunteer Director to help coordinate and organize volunteers for race events, summer picnic, local marathon and half marathon health expos. The Assistant Volunteer Director should be available to work each monthly club race (first Saturday of the month), to ensure the management and organization of volunteers. Strong communications skills preferred.
 

Legal Counsel
Legal Counsel to the Dallas Running Club (DRC) provides advice and counsel to the board of directors regarding a wide array of legal matters.  Legal Counsel will advise on major contracts and transactions, nonprofit regulatory compliance; risk management; litigation; research and intellectual property matters; labor and employment issues; sponsorship considerations. Pragmatically managing legal risks and being an astute business executive are key components to the position. The Legal Counsel will be expected to provide alternative solutions to minimize liability exposure while achieving business goals.
Key Qualifications:
* At least 7-8+ years of legal experience gained through a combination of law firm and in-house experience, nonprofit experience preferred.
* Participation in DRC training and race programs
* Experience interacting with and/or managing Board operations, including preparation of materials for Board meetings; influencing the structure of agendas; and advising on various issues such as corporate governance and fiduciary duties, ethics and compliance, and strategic transactions.
* Experience effectively developing and implementing strategy to address risk management and regulatory inquiries.
* Executive leadership and ability to engage in strategic planning
* A demonstrated ability to be an effective leader within board.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization. Personal credibility and the ability to articulate legal positions and strategies concisely and quickly, in a manner that is useful and easily understood.
* Experience with nonprofit compliance-related issues and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and enforce compliance and legal policies and procedures. Experience with regulations impacting the nonprofit governance, finance and operations will be preferred.
* Proven track record of strong negotiation, communication, organizational, and people management skills and the ability to influence and build relationships without direct authority.

We will be at Cane Rosso - White Rock on 
Thursday, October 20th at 6:30p.m.  

We will head out for a 3-mile run or walk. 
Then Return to Cane Rosso for food, raffles, and socializing.
