Did you know that you
can trade your used books for store credit? Every Saturday from noon until 3:00 PM, Melinda will check out your used paperbacks and ascertain if we need any for our store. Currently, we really need chapter books for kids and fiction for adults, plus history, biography, and other adult non-fiction - all paperbacks only, no hardcovers please! We also ask that you bring in at most two bags or one box of books for us to look at each week. Our Saturday trade-ins will be on hiatus from December 3rd till January 7th for the holidays, so if you have any great books to trade in for credit, bring them in soon! If you have never visited our Used Book Cellar, please stop by and take a look -- we are down the stairs at the rear of the store. We are always getting new titles, and you're sure to find something you'll want to read. As a matter of fact, take a look at these great titles that just arrived this past week!

TONIGHT! Wednesday, November 9th, 7:00 PM. Marilynn and Sheila Brass (The Brass Sisters) are on a mission to bring old-fashioned American home baking back to everyone's kitchen. Their newest book,
Baking with the Brass Sisters, embodies their philosophy: "We believe that there is nothing that tastes as good as something baked by someone who loves us, unless it is something we have baked and shared with someone we love." This is a ticketed event, and there will be tastings of food from the book!
Thursday, November 10th, 7:00 PM. We are delighted to welcome back Elin Hilderbrand for a reading and signing of her new Christmas novel,
Winter Storms. Gather under the mistletoe for one last round of caroling with the Quinn family in this heartwarming conclusion to Hilderbrand's bestselling Winter Street Trilogy. Tickets for this event are $5.00, which can be used as a coupon toward the purchase of
Winter Storms.
Monday, November 14th, 7:00 PM.
It is 1971 and seventeen-year-old Sarah Cunningham is consumed by wanderlust. When her passion for capturing interesting subjects through her camera lens leads Sarah to a grassy lot one day, she becomes mesmerized by the fascinating circus life that surrounds her. In this coming-of-age story, a restless teenager embarks on a journey of self-discovery during the 1970s after she runs away with the circus. Join author Elizabeth C. Wellington as she signs and discusses her autobiographical novel Circus Girl for a fascinating evening.
Wednesday, November 16th, 7:00 PM. Evolved is a transformative work of fiction blending science and spirituality. Set in a post-A.I. society in which silicon and organic life forms blend almost seamlessly, the government has used science to manage evolution for over a millennium to produce humans capable of overcoming apocalyptic challenges. Author Matthew McKay will present his new novel, read from it, and autograph copies when you buy this exciting and thought-provoking book.
Thursday, November 17th, 7:00 PM. Margot Livesey, best-selling author of The Flight Of Gemma Hardy, presents her newest book, Mercury, which William calls "smart and psychologically astute." This novel about the blindness that affects all of us in relationships involves one woman's obsession with a prized horse, and her husband, who is still recovering from his beloved father's death. How these psychological dramas culminate in one horrifying night make for a complex and suspenseful novel.

Bookseller Recommendations!
|
|
Betty Recommends:
Mercury by Margot Livesey
Does a marriage implode slowly or does it happen in an instant? In Margot Livesey's
Mercury, a family copes with the dangerous obsession a wife develops for a horse stabled where she works. The story is told by both the husband and the wife utilizing alternating viewpoints, and it beautifully integrates a Scotsman's reticence and an American woman's gusto and ambition. Rich supporting characters enhance this morality tale.
William Recommends:
Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple
Ever have one of those days? In Maria Semple's hilarious follow-up to her best-selling
Where'd You Go, Bernadette, Eleanor wakes up and decides that today she will accomplish everything she wants to accomplish . . . and then life gets in the way. Whether she is tracking down her missing husband, helping her son (who has a fondness for make-up), or surviving a concussion (there's an app for that!), she remains stalwart and determined to have a good day. Semple's funny prose suits the material very well, and her characters are much more realistic than necessary, making this a wonderful romp!
Jess Recommends:
Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Fans of
Illuminae will be far from disappointed with Kaufman and Kristoff's latest tale. Follow two new characters as they fight to protect their home from invaders, alien predators, and a malfunctioning wormhole that threatens to tear the space-time continuum apart. This book is just as gritty, suspenseful, and charming as the first but with enough unique twists to make it almost impossible to put down! This novel is a whirlwind that will not let you go until the very last page.
Rebecca Recommends:
Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh
This immediately appealing New England noir is set in a small coastal Massachusetts town in the sleepy, early 1960s. With shades of Patricia Highsmith, Ottessa Moshfegh takes us into the mind of a repressed, self-effacing young woman who is ready to snap.

What We're Reading Now...
|
|
Vinnie
Vincent's friends all call him Vinnie. He is a seven year old Papillon whose owner says he keeps her house nice and tidy by barking at things when she sets them down in the wrong place (maybe he's read The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up). He does, however, bring his kibble into the living room to snack on later. Welcome to Wellesley Books, Vinnie!
