Focus on Student Learning
Marble Watercolor Abstractions

The 3rd grade artists started the project by rolling an inky marble around on watercolor paper. The intersecting tangle of lines from the marble served as a design from which to notice objects and images. Now the students are using watercolor to "color in" the sections that resulted from all of those intersecting lines. Simply by coloring in they are constructing images. Also important is that each adjacent section has to have a different color or shade of a color. That restriction has encouraged a keen sense and control over lightness and darkness with the watercolors.

Morning Arrival
Some friendly reminders regarding morning drop-off:
  • Please do not leave your child at the front of the school unsupervised. Doors open at 8 a.m.
  • If you are the lead car, do not stop at the Lower School door entrance. Please pull all the way around the front circle (to the entry of the Batten parking lot) before stopping to let your child out of the car.
  • If you need to get out of your car to help your child with their belongings, please park  your car in a parking spot and escort your child to the sidewalk.
  • Front doors close at 8:25 a.m.
  • Please share this information with any caregivers who do morning drop-off in your home.
Thanks so much for helping all of our students get to school safely and on time!

Peabody Student News

We are proud to recognize the following Peabody 8th graders for their community service and academic accomplishments:

For the next 12 months, Anya Le (with brother/Peabody alum Ian) is training a service dog with Service Dogs of Virginia, including providing early neurosensory stimulation, teaching basic obedience and exposing him to the human world. After "Doc" graduates from the Le family, he will enter advanced training at Service Dogs of VA, where they will determine what type of service dog he will become. Expect Doc to make appearances at Peabody throughout the year!

Congratulations to William Bradford, who achieved admission to the Johns Hopkins CTY Intensive Studies Program in Math and Humanities. He also will attend a ceremony for High Honors Award Recognition in the Spring. CTY’s Intensive Studies is designed for students who are ready for intense college-level course work and accelerated study in specific disciplines.  Also, this past spring  William was granted admission into The Davidson Institute, which recognizes "profoundly intelligent young people and provides opportunities for them to develop their talents to make a positive difference."
