Your Gifts at Work
Thanks to many generous gifts, the community care fund supports over one hundred local programs dedicated to improving health, education, and financial stability across Tompkins County.   Here are some of the grants awarded in our community:

Through funding to the Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County 65 adults and children were able to attain stable housing; 40% of these individuals were coming from shelters or places not made for tenancy.

Staff at the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes met individually with over 500 people to help them better understand their medically related financial situation and provide practical support.

The Learning Web worked with 71 youth on employment preparation activities. 86% of the youth in this program increased their employability skills and 26 youth were given apprenticeships.

Other programs such as Foodnet Meals on Wheels and Gadabout were able to help older adults live a healthier lifestyle by providing over 140,000 meals, company, and over 60,000 rides.

For 95 years, the generous people and companies in our community have helped these and other groups through support of our United Way of Tompkins County. Thank you!

Pacesetter Chair David Shapiro, Community Campaign Chair Joe Mareane, and Vice-Chair Jason Moore reveal the 2016/17 Community Campaign Goal

James Brown welcomed a crowd of supporters to Stewart Park on September 15th for the Annual Stephen E. Garner Day of Caring and the 2016/17 Community Campaign Kickoff. 9,000 pounds of food, personal care items, pet and school supplies were donated over the course of the day and distributed to local pantries by the end of the day.

James welcomed and thanked the community for their generous support and presented a new video by Well Said Media that highlights the history and connectivity of United Way and our community. The video is available here.

Lisa Whitaker, UWTC Board Chair and CFCU Community Credit Union CEO gave thanks for the generosity of our community and shared her remarks on how UWTC makes a difference in people's lives.

Pacesetter Chair David Shapiro, Family and Children's Service, and Pacesetter Vice-Chair Jason Moore, Tompkins Trust Company, reported that the 31 Pacesetter organizations that "set the pace" by running United Way campaigns prior to the Day of Caring are seeing positive results. Many are Corporate Cornerstone Partners who generously support UWTC's administrative and operating expenses.

Campaign Chair Joe Mareane, Tompkins County Administrator, announced this year's Community Campaign goal of $2,037,800. Campaign gifts support essential education, financial stability, and health programs that improve lives in Tompkins County.
Spotlight on Tompkins Trust Company - United Way Pacesetter
The Tompkins Trust Company has been a longtime supporter of United Way and a Corporate Cornerstone Partner, but this year they tried something new as part of their pacesetter campaign.

Every Trust Company employee who participated in the campaign received a Tompkins Financial/United Way co-branded Tee-Shirt that they were encouraged to wear with jeans on the September 15th Day of Caring.

The Tee-Shirts highlighted the connection between United Way and the Trust Company. It also served as a great way for the Trust Company employees to come together as a team and show their support for the community.
