STEM Book bags to Borrow

At our Teacher Kickoff events, we introduced our new collection of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) books. Many of you asked about borrowing these for STEM lessons. We have created 5 teacher sets with 4 to 5 books each for that purpose. If you are interested in a full list of titles - and in borrowing a set, please let us know!

Thinking ahead to Thanksgiving!  BookSuggestion

Turkey Trouble is a whimsical book that will have your class giggling and the repetitive structure will have them joining in the telling of the story by the end.   This book is a fun way to get ready for Turkey Day!

Suggested Activity:  Print out pictures of Turkey (any turkey print out will do) and then have the children color and draw on the picture to disguise Turkey so that he can escape his Thanksgiving fate.

Our Pinterest Page is geared toward early literacy and we try to provide research as well as classroom activities, and even inspiring quotes!

ParentConnection PARENT CONNECTION:
Belo w is a short segment that you could easily add to your next parent newsletter.  We are really trying to connect with parents and help you connect with them through Raising A Reader.  Use it if you would like!

PARENT NEWSLETTER NUGGET:
While Raising A Reader encourages reading and literacy activities to develop your child's oral language skills, simply CONNECTING and BONDING with your child is also key, especially when you talk about the activity. When children associate love with learning, talking and exploring, they are more successful in school. Some ideas:

1. Take a walk together and talk about what you see.
2. Sit and color together. Talk about the pictures and the colors, and imagine what is happening in the picture.
3. Cook or prepare something together and talk about the ingredients.
4. Listen to your favorite music together. Sing.
