Connecticut Leadership Academy

The LeadingAge Connecticut Leadership Academy is a yearlong transformational leadership development experience for emerging leaders.
Session Four:  Building Relationships and Partnerships

During the final session of the Connecticut Leadership Academy, the fellows focused on the importance of relationship development.  They learned how to use their emotional intelligence, how to advocate for their organizations and the people they serve, how to create partnerships outside the walls of their communities and learned the best practices of other organizations.

During this session, the fellows enjoyed a tour of Duncaster and a spent a lot of time in learning from the Duncaster management team.  Thank you to Michael O'Brien, Valerie Santos and the entire staff and residents of Duncaster for your hospitality!

Personal Leadership Framework

For this session, fellows read the book Touchpoints by Douglas Conant.  In this context, touchpoints are impactful and at times crucible moments when someone touched us by saying just the right thing, at the right time, in the right way.   These moments have long lasting effects on a person and as a leader they can assist in engaging people, creating relationships, building confidence and gaining commitment instead of settling for compliance.

The fellows learned that many leaders need to develop a personal leadership model that will help guide you to be tough minded on standards and tender hearted with people.  The fellows completed an exercise that allowed them to explore these topics.
