As part of its ongoing effort to foster understanding and cooperation between the Muslim and Christian communities, the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding (FFEU), under the leadership of Rabbi Marc Schneier and Russell Simmons, facilitated a private meeting on September 18, 2017 between the President of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, and American evangelical leaders.

The delegation led by Rabbi Schneier included members of Eagles' Wings, the preeminent pro-Israel Christian evangelical movement in the United States and around the globe.

The evangelical leaders in attendance participated in an open exchange with the President who addressed Azerbaijan's commitment to inter-religious and intercultural cooperation.

Rabbi Schneier praised President Aliyev and his nation as a paradigm for its support of Israel and its dedication to religious freedom for all denominations.

On the eve of the Jewish New Year, Rabbi Schneier presented a shofar to the President in the spirit of Azerbaijan's "clarion call for religious tolerance that resounds across the Muslim world."
